Posts from former site won't transfer

  I’ve downloaded the export file which is under the maximum mb limit allowed, but only around 200 of the 1000 posts have transferred over to my blog, even though it says the transfer’s been complete. I currently have it on private so as to not to compete with the site that is up and running right now with the same posts. Any idea as to why this is happening?
