Posts grey out on wp.com readers

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Since migrating from wp.com to wp.org, my posts appeared grey out on wp.com readers. I’ve also realised that no posts are published on readers (although i recently did). Does this migration affects my website visibility on wp.com readers?

I’ve followed instructions on forum, but nothing seems to work.
    Appreciate your support.

    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

To clarify, your question is about posts published on your Bluehost site framesoflifeblog.com yes?

If so I should point out that self-hosted WordPress sites (which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.) do not appear in the WordPress.com Reader if you are using the free version of the Jetpack plugin.

You can turn on the option to have your posts appear by upgrading to a paid Jetpack plan, but under the free Jetpack plugin those posts are not shared with us. More info here: https://jetpack.com/support/reader/

Once you upgrade your Jetpack plugin with any of the plans mentioned here, posts will once again show in the WordPress.com Reader.

    Thanks for letting me know.

    Hi,

May I know if I upgrade to a paid Jetpack backup plan, would I be able to restore all the ‘likes’ which I’ve also lost from recent migration?

    Thank you

  • Hello there,

If the installation, with the original host was connected via Jetpack then it may be possible to move stats from one installation to another.

Did this installation use a URL other than: framesoflifeblog.com ?

    For instance: framesoflifeblog.wordpress.com ?

    Hi there,

My original host was with wp.com under framesoflifeblog.com

However since the migration to wp.org, somehow wp.com automatically changed the url to framesoflifeblog.wordpress.com (currently I’ve set it to private).

I would certainly hope to restore the ‘likes’ if purchasing Jetpack Backup helps (on top of being visible on Readers again).

Please let me know if this is possible?

    Thank you.

  • Hello there,

Ah ok, so the site when it was originally created was: framesoflifeblog.wordpress.com.

The domain: framesoflifeblog.com is registered with WordPress.com and used on the site, but the DNS settings are not pointing toward WordPress.com, and it was also set as the primary domain.

This has the affect of, when visiting framesoflifeblog.wordpress.com visitors will be redirected to framesoflifeblog.com (Bluehost).

I’ve just set framesoflifeblog.wordpress.com as the primary domain, meaning this redirect won’t be in place and the two sites are now separate.

It’s not possible to move likes, but it is possible move stats from one site to another – would you like to proceed with this?

    Many thanks.

    Hi

    Thanks for the clarification.
I understand that the ‘likes’ cannot be migrated, but is it possible to migrate ‘likes’ with a Paid Jetpack Backup Plan? I intend to purchase this plan because currently framesoflifeblog.com is not visible on WP.com Readers. I was told my website will only be visible on Readers with the purchase of this plan. So, I am wondering if it can also migrate ‘likes’ as well?

Migration of stats to framesoflifeblog.com has completed last week. Therefore, there is no need to migrate stats again. Framesoflifeblog.com should be my primary website.

    Thank you.

  • Like are stored quite differently on WordPress.com vs. Jetpack sites, so we unfortunately really have no way to migrate those, not even via a backup.

    Ok, thanks for your explanation.

    Hi again,

I just purchased the Jetpack Backup Plan, but it seems my posts on WP.com Readers are still not visible. Although I specifically search for my site, I can see my site but the site says “no recent posts” although I posted 3 posts few days ago.

I’ve also come across a forum post that talks about this. It seems the support team have reset the Readers in relation to the site to solve the problem.
    https://wordpress.com/forums/topic/the-posts-does-not-appears-in-the-reader-wordpress/

May I know if the site has the same issue as mine? I am confused if Jetpack Backup Plan is necessary for self-hosted site to be visible on Readers or can do without? (I’ve got this advice from support team that my website can continue to be visible only if I purchase the BackUp plan since I have migrated my site.

Hope you can look into this. Thank you.

  • Hello there,

Searching for the domain wouldn’t necessarily bring up the search results, that said, I did see the feed needed refreshing which I’ve done for you.

You should be seeing the articles appear here: https://wordpress.com/read/search?q=framesoflifeblog&focus=1&sort=relevance

    I hope this helps.

It works now, thank you very much. Eventually, do self-hosted actually need a paid Jetpack plan to be visible on readers?

    Thank you.

  • Hello there,

    You’re most welcome.

The site would need a paid plan for it to appear on Reader tag pages.
