Posts invisible sign in IE ok, Firefox No
-
I’ve been having trouble with my blog for a week or so. First, my theme disappeared, so I chose a new one. Then, I could not post. All that would happen when I tried was my typing (or pasting) was invisible unless you highlighted it. Then you could see it. It was as if I was typing white on a white background. I could also not add a picture or click the “HTML” tab. So, at the suggestion of a colleague I cleared my cookies, cache, etc. That did not work on IE or Firefox.
Then, I realized as long as I had 2 blogs (one was inactive), I could not be truly signed out. So, I deleted one of my blogs. Now, Firefox won’t let me sign in at all and Firefox was always the easiest to use when updating my blog. I can sign in using IE. However, I still get the white on white. I tried changing my theme. I can do that. The posts that appear correctly on the blog do not allow me to see them in the edit tab. They are white on white (invisible) even though they appear fine on the blog. When I highlighted some of the white on white in the HTML tab (which I could now access) and changed it, then clicked preview, nothing appeared changed.
I need to be able to work on my blog. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thanks in advance.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

This seems to be a spreading problem although not everyone is experiencing it.
All I can do at this point is tag this thread so that staff will hopefully see it and respond. They are monitoring the forums in their absence.

What happens when you try to sign in using Firefox? Do you receive an error message of any kind?
As far as not being able to use the post editor, can you please try to reach these URLs?
http://s0.wp.com
http://s1.wp.com
http://s2.wp.comThese are the servers we use to load content such as images and JavaScript necessary for WordPress.com to function. If you are unable to reach them, it may indicate an internet connection issue, which we can further troubleshoot.
Please check the above and let us know what you find.

I’m having similar issues as the ones mentioned above. The 2nd and 3rd sites are blocked for me.

If this is the case, you must speak to your IT department or check your router settings (if you are not behind an IT department).
They will have to remove the block for you.

What is puzzling to me as to why this has happened just within the last week or so, and seems to hit a wide range of people, even if they are all behind corporate firewalls. Would they all change their settings all at once to block those addresses? Or is it possible that they are all using some “cyber-nanny/security program that is doing this.
Can’t help but ponder this.

Let me add, that I’m not suggesting there is an issue wat wordpress (I’ve fought firewalls and internet security programs before), I’m just trying to find dots to connect, and right now I can find few dots to connect.
-
You know, I’d buy the fact that it’s an issue with security programs if there was a sudden rush on companies throwing up firewalls or other kinds of security precautions, but since it’s a widespread problem, it seems to me that the issue is something that WordPress has changed about their servers. There are a lot of people with the same problem over the last few days, so something has changed or else there wouldn’t be so many people with the problem.
Just for the record, I did click on all three of those links and the second and third ones were blocked due to “pornography”. Considering that that is against WP’s terms of service, I think that something needs to be investigated further with the servers themselves.

@complexwoman, given that there are nearly 3 million blogs here, and given that the forum is not completely overrun with people reporting this problem, it really cannot be termed “widespread.” It is a problem though and I’m sure staff is working on it.
If those two last links were reported as pornography, then that is an issue with whatever firewall or security software you are running behind, because those last two links are nothing but blank blogs with just a hello world post.
It could be that those two subdomains somehow mistakenly got into a cyber-nanny/security database that security software packages use to try and “protect” us from such stuff.

I have exactly splchildrens’ problem — had to change my theme and I can’t edit my posts (can’t see text). Like allkindsofminds my corporate firewall is blocking the 2nd and 3rd links for “pornography”.
Yes — something systemic and widespread has changed. Either WordPress changed its servers or (as thesacredpath suggests) a CyberNanny program of some sort has pushed a new rule-set across Internet to multiple subscribing corporate firewalls that are configured wrong to block WordPress!
I am behind a SonicWall — which might help with narrowing this down.
Either way, it is in the interests of WordPress to chase this. If WordPress staff don’t want to spend the next several months tells untold numbers of users to fix their firewalls, WordPress may want to find the source of the bad block ruleset and get them to fix it!
Thanks,

When SonicWall blocks these servers, it provides a small link that lets you go to their website to fight the rating. I suggest that everyone behind a SonicWall that is doing this go to the following URL to complain:
http://cfssupport.sonicwall.com/Support/web/eng/newui/ratingReview.jsp

Is everyone having trouble behind a SonicWall? The webpage denying you access will usually (although not always) say the type of firewall device.

I am having these issues and I am behind a SonicWall. Earlier today I had the IT guy stop my content filtering so I could get to the two links that are blocked for everyone (me included). TA DA! Everything worked again. He then resumed the normal content filtering settings for my computer’s IP address and it all went to crap again.
I think you are onto something here. I haven’t tried my blog from home in several days thinking it was just busted. I will check to see if the issues are absent when I am not behind a SonicWall.

rubber7soul — you nailed it. Thanks!
Hoping that SonicWall develops their own rulesets — that is, that other devices don’t use the same faulty rules…

Just to update: I have all normal functionality on my Dashboard now that I am at home. This is definitely a security program issue.

Just confirming that SonicWALL is the problem here. I whitelisted wp.com on our SonicWALL servers and normal behavior is now restored. THANKS for posting this…especially to markel in posting the 3 links…that proved the source of the issue for me.
