Posts Layout

How do I change the template that is currently set up in my WordPress Posts? When we publish articles there is a large gap (space) between the title and the feature photo. I also want to update our template design so it’s more modern as I feel our current one is outdated. Any suggestions, demo videos, or feedback is greatly appreciated. FYI – we’re a media company so that’s the look we’re going for – sports media.

Hi there @bonniehollandextrainning
Thanks for posting, I’m happy to help with this.
To get started, we’ll need a bit more info from you. Could you share the site address in question?
That’ll let us take a closer look at the theme/template you’re using and why there’s extra space between the post title and the featured image.
In the meantime, here are a few general tips that might help:
- That large gap is usually controlled by the theme’s post layout settings (or sometimes a block spacing option in the editor).
- If you’re looking for a more modern, sports-media style, themes like Spectra One, Mayland, Balasana, or Variety are popular for media-heavy sites and offer cleaner post layouts.
- You can preview and switch themes from Appearance > Themes, and use the Site Editor (if your theme supports it) to adjust spacing and post templates.
Once you share your site details, we can give more specific guidance and even point out exactly where to change that spacing.

Thank you for your reply. Is there a tutorial that can show me step by step how to do this? I’m not a tech gal – just a CEO. :) Here’s a link to one of our articles for you to view. Thanks again! https://extrainningsoftball.com/stars-of-texas-invitational-returns-2026/

Can I point out that you’re in the forum that helps with sites hosted at WordPress.com, whilst your site is hosted elsewhere. There are forums elsewhere for sites using the wordpress software as tutorials here may or may not be applicable to your setup. You could move here though…

And I’m surprised it took three weeks for you to get a reply!! It looks like you created this account just to post your question. I’m sure you would have received a much quicker response if you actually had a paid plan and site here. If you create an account and ask for advice at the correct forum perhaps a response would be sooner?
