Posts limited to two shown !?

  • Unknown's avatar

Even though my site setting says TEN blogs can be shown, my Blogs page never shows more than the most recent TWO posts.

I know I’m not “losing” posts, because all are showing up the Category Archives pages (which is a WONDERFUL feature).

Is that a function of the theme I’m using?
If so, where do I discover the name of that theme and identify the themes which support showing the 10 most recent posts?

Or is something else limiting my posts to the two most recent.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

To fix that you need to go to your Homepage settings (WordPress.com > My Sites > Design > Customize > Homepage Settings) and set your blog page as your Posts Page.

    Did the trick.
    Thanks!

But I found a gotcha… My image at the top of the page disappeared and there’s no longer an Edit option from Pages.

Can I have both an Image at the top of my Blogs page AND more than two posts?

    Thanks for the additional information.

Please understand that I’m a newbie to the terminology and the tools of website construction as well as to blogging.

    I have decided on a “work-around” (but with a follow-on question).

Then perhaps utilize one of your 3 Post Block alternatives after I’ve been doing this for a while.

    Work-around

(Note I’ve renamed “Blog” as “Stories” and “Home” as “Welcome”.)

I was able to add an image to my Blog/Stories page, which now supports the 10 most-recent posts, by assigning it as HomePage under MySites > … > Pages.

A tolerable side-effect is that, upon site opening, the Blog/Stories page displays rather than my “Home/Welcome” page, although my “Home/Welcome” page is still accessible via menu selection.

But I’m concerned that this configuration is inconsistent with the settings on MySites > … > Homepage Settings, viz.,
    Homepage displays: a static page
Homepage: Stories (my rename of the Blog page)
    Posts page: – Select –
    Hide Homepage Title: Checked

Ideally, I’d like, upon site opening, that the static “Welcome” page displays first with the “Stories” page with a title and image at the top followed by the most recent 10 posts available via menu selection.

But I can tolerate the current configuration in which, upon site opening, the “Stories” page displays first and the user must click to view the “Welcome” page from the menu.

Any thoughts on the “inconsistency” (to me) between the “…> Pages” and “…> Homepage Settings”?

    Future Posts Block alternatives:
(I assume I could insert one of the alternatives on a static page, rather than use the default Blog/Stories page to display posts.)

    – Blog Posts Block – show a few of the most-recent posts (as I currently format them) with excerpts

    – Latests Posts Block – show a few of the most-recent posts (titles only), but without excerpts

    – Post Carousel Block – Cool, but requires an image for each post, which would be a challenge, since my posts are narrative with supplemental newspaper clippings.

I welcome any comments on the “inconsistency” which involves my work-around, or you can close this ticket.

Again, thanks for all your help!

    Oops!

After making the changes to add the image (see immediately above), I’m back to only the two most recent posts, but I’m cool with that until I get more experience with WordPress.
