  Is there a widget out there that will place icons on a goolge map (or any map) similar to this: http://californiathroughmylens.com/map-of-locations/

  Having something like this on my blog would be a lot of fun.

  It looks like the site you point to as an example simply used a customized Google Map.

  You can create such a map by following the instructions here:
  https://support.google.com/maps/answer/62843?hl=en

  And here’s how you embed a Google map on your blog:
  http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-maps/

  It’ll take a little work, but it can be done.
