Posts not accumulating # of likes as normal

  • Unknown's avatar

Okay so I’ve posted this before but never really got someone to take this seriously. There are occasional posts I make that are either showing up way far down in the reader or not at all. I know the trends of the people who follow my blog and today’s post is definitely not showing the amount of likes it normally would after I posted it several hours ago. Several posts are like that for me. I will paste a few links to the posts in question.

I’ve tagged and categorized properly like all the other posts which have more than 150 likes but these are abnormal. Can someone look into this for me?

Thanks timethief. I just added the tag. This is so strange!

    You’re welcome Laura.

I hope a mod can take a look at my issue soon. I did manage to bump the post up to the top of the reader but changing the status to draft and then scheduling it for a future time. That seemed to work. This is definitely a glitch because I didn’t change the tags or anything else.

Oops typos! I meant to say I managed to bump up my current post. And also meant to say “BY” changing the status.

  • Hi @lauramacky,

There are occasional posts I make that are either showing up way far down in the reader or not at all.

I’ve confirmed these posts are showing in the reader actually — at the top of the list for some of these more obscure tags, in fact. Do you have a screenshot for what you’re getting there?

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi supernovia. There are no screenshots other than going to the blog and noticing how few likes there are on these posts. EXCEPT for the most recent one which I fixed by rescheduling it to post at a later time.

Other people have mentioned they have the same problem so I’m not sure what’s going on here. Oh well…I guess it’s some sort of glitch.

    Thanks for responding.

Of course, not every post will get the same number of likes as every other post, and that could vary due to a number of different factors. I do think likes are working normally, variation in those numbers could be based on different content or how friendly the community is feeling in general that day or the popularity of the tag could be itself could be a factor — your post will show further down the list faster for a very popular tag. In other words, there is no guarantee the same number of likes will happen as happened before and a variation of those numbers could just be normal.

I do understand what you’re saying. I really do. It’s just that I know for a fact that my post didn’t show up in the reader at the top for sure on the pier pillars one. Interesting about the popularity of the tag and where it shows up in the reader. I had no idea. Thanks for that tidbit!

When you are reviewing your own stuff and looking at the same pages over and over, even in the reader, it’s a really good idea to clear cache sometimes to help make sure your viewing the latest version of any given page. For the tags that do change very fast, it’s just the nature of the beast that posts will appear lowered on the page sooner. Other than that, the best thing you can do is make sure the date and time are current when you publish and also maybe keep tabs on which type of content get more likes. For example, I know someone with a restaurant blog and every time they post a picture of a sunset it gets more likes than any other kind of post. :-) That’s just one example for one type of blog for one area though. You need to find out what your audience likes best.

Thanks. I really don’t know why I’m worried about all this. Life is too short to worry about how many likes I get. Thanks for your help and have a nice day. :)

I love likes :) but I also try not to stress about them too much! :) :)
