Posts not appearing in Twitterfeed

  • Unknown's avatar

I have activated Publicize, and connected my WP account to my Twitter account. Anything I post to Twitter shows up in my TwitterFeed, on my WP page. However, when I schedule a post, it doesn’t show up in my Twitter feed when it gets published.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hello there!

I have just tested your Twitter connection. The good news is that all is working well if the connection between Twitter and your WordPress.com account.

So, let’s look into what could be going wrong…

First, I’d like you to take a look at the common reasons that your posts might not have publicized to Twitter:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#common-reasons-why-a-post-failed-to-publicize

Once you go through those steps — including disconnecting/reconnecting your Twitter Publicize connection — please schedule another post.

Once the scheduled post is published, please let me know if it auto-posted to Twitter.

Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks very much.

None of those basic errors are the problem. I go through the scheduling process, including day and time, and then I click the @LibraryCoot box for Twitter. Then, when I hit the Update or Schedule button, the entire page refreshes, saying that I have scheduled a post (or updated a post), but the box in front of my Twitter name “@LibraryCoot” goes back to being unchecked.

I have noticed that the info that is apparently supposed to be right under the Publish/Schedule button (and right above the Move to Trash option) is missing.

Somehow, even though WP shows that I have connected WP and Twitter, that is not being shared with the process for publishing my posts.

    Hello there,

Can you confirm that you’ve just disconnected/reconnected your Publicize to Twitter option?

    Thanks much!

  • Unknown's avatar

Yes, that is exactly what I did. I went through the troubleshooting steps listed under the About Publicize:

1 – Disconnecting on the Publicize –> Sharing page
    2 – Discard cookies.
    3 – Re=log back into WP.
4 – Reconnect to Twitter on the Publicize –> Sharing page.

After I did that, I went to a post that I have scheduled to be published tomorrow, and on the right side of the screen, where the Sharing portion is, under Publicize, I check the @LibraryCoot box, and clicked the Update button. The screen refreshed, as it always has done, and once again, the @LibraryCoot box was unchecked.

And, as I said in my previous post, again the info that is supposed to be above the Move To Trash option was still missing.

    Hi again,

Thanks for detailing these steps. This is helpful.

    • Are you using the new editor, or the old, to create the post?
    • Have you ever had a post go out correctly?

If you are using the old editor, please try the classic version….of vice versa. Let me know if the issue is solved by switching.

    Classic post editor:

    New editor:

    https://wordpress.com/posts/my/curmudgeonlylibrarian.wordpress.com/

    • Also, could you please take a screenshot for me of the unchecked box problem you’re seeing after you click Update? You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there.

The page at the following link has some helpful tips for taking screenshots:

      Take a Screenshot

Just let me know when there’s something I should take a look at.

Looking forward to getting a note back from you, and hearing your results. Thanks much.

    1 – I use the new editor.

2 – The only “successful” post was a immediate ‘Publish’. The problem is when I try to make my scheduled posts appear in my Twitter Feed.

3 – How do I get screenshots to you? This reply window doesn’t have an “Attach File” function.

The first screenshot shows that I’ve checked the @LibraryCoot box.
The second one shows that the box has become unchecked after I clicked the update button.
The third one shows that, indeed, I have connected my Twitter account to my WP blog.
And the last shows that there is no service listed between the Publish/Change Status section and the Tags/Categories section.

    Regarding your screenshots:

You can simply upload the screenshot to your Media Library, like any other image, and I’ll be able to access it from there.

Please let me know when those are added to your library. Thank you.

You mentioned that you use the new editor. What happens when you attempt the same action in the classic editor:

    Thanks!

    Okay, did that, including captions.

I’ll have to get back to you about the old editor.

  • Unknown's avatar

I did the old editor, and uploaded the screenshot for that one, too. We’ll see if it gets put in my Twitter feed tomorrow morning.

Forgot to mention that the post I had scheduled for tomorrow morning somehow got published this evening, and it did NOT appear in my Twitter feed – had to do that ‘manually.’

    Hi there!

I took a look at your Media Library. Thanks for those images! Quite helpful.

Forgot to mention that the post I had scheduled for tomorrow morning somehow got published this evening,

I am confused about the disparity in post dates/times in the classic/new editor. I see these two images:

    https://curmudgeonlylibrarian.files.wordpress.com/2014/12/no-publicize-info.png

Could you clear that up for me?

Regarding the main issue at hand — your scheduled posts failure to publicize to Twitter — you’ve given me all the details I need to begin deeper testing on my end.

If you think of any other specifics that might help me out, please do send them along. In the meantime, I’m troubleshooting the issue.

Thanks for your patience on this. We’ll get you up and running.

    Happy holidays to you.

“I am confused about the disparity in post dates/times in the classic/new editor. I see these two images: “

Those images are from two different posts. Remember, above, when I said that one post that was scheduled for Christmas somehow got published the day before? That’s the mix-up on those two images. The schedule somehow changed from 12/25 @ 08:00 to 12/24 @ 22:00.
