Posts not appearing in wordpress reader

  • Unknown's avatar

I humbly request your support for one of my major concerns, “Posts not appearing in wordpress reader” after migrating to a self-hosted site
    My wordpress username is wordsandnotion
A few months back I moved to a self-hosted site from wordpress.com. [https://wordsandnotion.wordpress.com/ to http://wordsandnotion.com/%5D. And I have connected my site to wordpress via jetpack pluggin. Also I used the Subscription Migration Tool to migrate my followers. But my site is not appearing in the wordpress reader. [Whenever I give a search as ‘wordsandnotion’ in the wordpress.com I could see my old wordpress.com posts appearing and not the new self-hosted blog posts]. I can’t see my blog posts appearing in the reader as and when I publish the posts [or even after a delay of a few hours].
And to add a little more on the issue, I have created list in wordpress and added my blog there. Interestingly, the posts appear in this created list as and when I publish, but not in the normal reader [under followed sites] as mentioned above. [I am following my own blog]
I need your support to rectify these issues.
    Your help is much appreciated
    Thanks
    Akhila

Hi there, when I searched for your site on my Reader, and then clicked on the title, I see all posts that are showing on your site right now.

    Hi Akhila,

There are two ways to follow a Jetpack site at WordPress.com. The first is to click on Reader > Search then enter the domain name you’d like to follow. This will allow any WordPress.com user to follow your site viewing post in the reader:

I’ve tested this and was able to follow your site with the WordPress.com reader.

The second way is through tags, https://wordpress.com/tag/blogger. For Jetpack sites, tags will only show up if you’re using a paid Jetpack plan. You may upgrade your plan at:
    https://jetpack.com/pricing/

Let us know if you have other questions.

    Hi,

    Thanks for response.
You are absolutely right. On taking this feed https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/74475652, I can view my blog posts.
But whenever I give a search as ‘wordsandnotion’ in the wordpress.com I could see my old wordpress.com posts appearing under the ‘Posts’. And on the right side of the same window, I can see my blog under ‘Sites’. From there it is taken to the feed https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/74475652.

If I am following a site, I am expecting the respective posts to be shown in the wordpress reader [under followed sites] as and when posts are published. [ No need to go to https://wordpress.com/read/feeds/74475652. to check the posts]
But whenever I publish a post, the posts are not appearing in the reader under ‘Followed Sites’. That’s my concern
[I am following my own blog]

    Your help is much appreciated
    Regards
    Akhila

  • Hi there,

But whenever I give a search as ‘wordsandnotion’ in the wordpress.com I could see my old wordpress.com posts appearing under the ‘Posts’.

You’re conflating the main Reader feed with the Reader search feature.

Search is showing old posts from your WordPress.com site because those are still indexed in the Reader. People following your site won’t go looking for it there, however. They’ll see your posts in their main feed at https://wordpress.com/

Search also does not show posts in any particular order, but shows results based on relevance to the search term you used, and the number of comments and likes a particular post has received. If you’re not seeing newer posts from since you switched to Jetpack, it’s because our search algorithm isn’t ranking those posts as highly as it’s ranking older posts on your site.

That does not mean the posts from the new site are not appearing in the Reader. It just means they’re not the first results to be returned by Search, just like your site is not guaranteed to be on the first page of results of a Google Search for any search term.

    Hi,

Thanks for making me clear on the terms, main Reader feed and the Reader search feature.
I just would like to repeat that my posts are not shown up in the “main reader” as and when I publish. My followers are also facing the same issue.
Expecting your support to rectify my issues
    Thanks
    Akhila

  • The last post on your site, Tempted to reveal my passion.. should I?, appears to have been published almost a month ago, on 29 June, which makes this a bit hard to troubleshoot. That post is showing up in all the feeds we have for your site, so I can’t see anything wrong on this end.

When you publish the next post on your site and it doesn’t appear on the main Reader feed, please let us know here so we can take a look. Do note, however, that it can take up to an hour after the post is published for it to actually appear in the feed.

    Hi,

I have published a new post 2 hours back. It hasn’t appeared in my wordpress main reader yet.
Kindly have a look and help me to rectify the issues

    Thanks
    Akhila

  • Okay! The post is showing in my Reader feed as published two hours ago:

    https://cloudup.com/cQyr9QKHc74

However, I can it’s not showing up in the Reader for your account. So the problem is not with the feed or with the Reader, but with your account. I’ve asked our Reader team to take a look, and will let you know what they say.

  • We’ve found the reason why you’re not seeing your own site – you’re following too many sites.

When you’re following an extremely high number of feeds, we select posts from up to 2000 of them to present to you in Reader. This means that you may not see every post from every site you follow. This is unlikely to affect any of your followers, as not many WordPress.com accounts follow that many sites.

To make sure you see all posts from sites you actually read, I recommend you go through your followed sites list and remove the sites you’re following but don’t actually read.

    Hi,

Thank you so much for letting me know on this 2000 count. Probably that should be the reason. As you suggested I will recheck my followed sites and remove those which I am not actually reading or inactive blogs.

I would just like to let you know that, this issue doesnt seems to be an unlikely one as I know the same happening with many of my readers. Probably reason should be the same, 2000+ followed sites.

Thanks a lot for all your time and effort
    Akhila

  • If your site is not showing up for others of your followers, please ask them to start their own threads here so we can take a look at their accounts. But it’s very unlikely that they’re also hitting those limits, and we have very few account that do.
