Posts not fully loading and cannot edit them
-
I have a couple of posts (at least those that I am aware of) that are not fully loading. I get the pinwheel on my Mac. I also cannot edit these posts. One post is over 2 years old, I access it frequently and have never had issue with it until recently. Another post is a couple months old.

And what specifically happens when you try to edit these posts? Do you get an error message of any sort?

First, please make sure that your browser is up to date: https://browsehappy.com/
If it is not, please try updating your browser or switching to a different browser.
If it is, please do these two things:
1. Try clearing your browser’s cache and cookies.
2. Try with all browser extensions or add-ons temporarily disabled.
Please let us know how each step goes for you, and which browser (and version of) you’re using if you’re still having trouble.
-
Browse Happy says I should have Safari 14, but mine is 12, but this MacBook is a few years old, 2015 model I think.
It had been set up to download new software automatically but obviously didn’t, so I don’t know if it can’t take newer versions? I’ll look into it further a bit later and see if version 14 can be downloaded. -
-
I see now it’s wanting a new update on macOS also, but that was set up to be automatic also and yet it didn’t happen. So, I’ll see about making that happen later, if this mac will take that version. I know how software loves to make perfectly good hardware obsolete… ya know. ;-) It will have to wait till a later time, but I will look into it. Thanks for your help. That sounds like the likely issue.
-
Ah, the Mac wouldn’t offer you a new OS update if it couldn’t. :)
Things should probably go well once you’re on the newest OS with Safari 14.
-
Well, macmanx, you got me to get my software updated, and it needed to be. But… no cigar. Still blog page loading problems. Now, I really haven’t looked over the new version of Safari to see if any settings could be tweaked or whatever, but if you can suggest any particular settings that may be of help…

Hi there,
Does your site’s front page load for you? It also hangs for me, causing my browser (Firefox) to start showing error messages.
It seems to stop loading right at the recent comments widget, so see if removing that widget helps?
Then I see you have your site set to show 150 posts on the front page. By showing so many posts you’re forcing the browser to download a massive amount of data every time someone loads the front page, and with the infinite scroll feature built into WordPress.com you really don’t need to load so many posts from the beginning.
Go to Manage ->Settings ->Writing, and set the number of posts to no more than 10.
Next, go to Manage ->Settings ->Discussion, and set the number of comments per page (which is currently at 50) to a lower number as well – your comments contain a lot of links, and in some cases embedded video, which also leads to a lot of data the browser has to download in order to display the page.
If you still see these pages not loading properly after making these changes, let us know.
We’re able to access those posts in the editor without any problems, though. Can you please check if you’re able to edit those if you use a different browser, like Chrome or Firefox?
Also please confirm if you’re using the editor via My Sites, or via WP-Admin.

kookieh, EVERYTHING was working just fine AS YOU SEE IT NOW, with that many posts on the home page, with the number of comments the same, etc. until about a week ago. *shrug* These things you suggest were not a problem before, why now? I have other posts that have links and embedded videos, in comments too and lots of comments but those pages load just fine. I did not recently change any of these things you’re suggesting. They’ve been like that always. Did WordPress change something recently?
The home page is also now hanging up. Didn’t before I updated my OS and Safari.
Most single posts load fine, what few I’ve checked thus far.
All posts and pages have the same sidebar and footer so why would something in those make one page hang up but not another.
The two posts I gave links to earlier are now hanging up, but no pinwheel now but will not finishing loading and sometimes tends to make my stats page hang up.
Other posts load just fine.
The two posts I gave links to:
The first one, (even though the page itself isn’t loading) the edit page seems to work ok.
The second one, the edit page gets hung up on the message about editors.Other posts’ edit pages seem ok.
I won’t be changing the home page or settings until I get those two individual posts to load properly. Their loading or lack thereof seem to hang up the stats page even.

Let’s work on these one issue at a time.
These issues do point to browser overload, since the page source loads just fine but the browser can’t complete the rendering.
On the first page, you have 272 comments. One of them may have something that’s causing the page to snag, or it may simply be the sheer volume of comments overwhelming the browser.
Would you temporarily change the number of comments displayed per page? You can set it to 50 here:
https://gaiaascensionforerunner.wordpress.com/wp-admin/options-discussion.phpThen, I’d recommend clicking through each page. If one of those page loads hangs, it’s possible a comment on that page is giving you trouble. We’d then try to figure out which one, likely by making further temporary adjustments to the comments per page.
I’m also trying to test the page here but it has not finished testing yet:

supernovia, let’s start even simpler.
The other link I provided to you (the second link above) only has 10 comments on it.
As I said before, none of this was an issue until about a week ago.
Here, this post has 172 comments, lots of links and videos… it loads slightly slower than other pages but it does load just fine!
Something else I’ve seen in the last couple days is that I am seeing the ads on my posts, even when I’m logged into wp.
Right now I’ve closed out all Safari windows except for wordpress and my email and cleared history on my browser. I’m going through and opening various posts to see how they are.
These posts seem to have loading issues also:
There may be more, but… up to this last one, working from most recent back, any that I have not listed open just fine.
-
I do see the problem in Firefox 82, so it’s not browser-specific at least.
I agree that https://gaiaascensionforerunner.wordpress.com/2020/08/31/global-bombshell-cdc-officially-calls-covid-19-a-hysteria-driven-hoax/ is best to focus on here, there are only 10 comments, so it rules that out.
Normally, if there’s a load failure, but only on specific posts, we’d suspect content only on those specific posts: the post content and the comments.
No comments here are out of the ordinary.
In the browser’s console, I’m seeing that the Infowars embed is failing to load:
Failed to execute ‘postMessage’ on ‘DOMWindow’: The target origin provided (‘https://www.infowars.com’) does not match the recipient window’s origin (‘null’).
If you remove that embed content from the post, does the post suddenly load properly?
-
macmanx, when I go into the edit for that post, it seems to load ok, but I cannot get the “Meet the Classic block” dialog box to close so I can’t edit the post.
-
There should be an ‘x’ on the top-right to click.
If not, would you please use https://snipboard.io/ to share a screenshot of what you’re seeing?
-
The “x” wouldn’t close it.
I opened the edit for some other posts and was able to close that dialog box.
Now, I went back into the edit for that post and it comes up fine but there is no dialog box there to close now.
But, I can’t seem to edit it. I reloaded the edit page. Still can’t edit anything there.
-
Now I just checked the edit for other posts and none of them now have that dialog box at all.
