Posts not fully loading and cannot edit them

I just got an email from wordpress that said this:

“We have finished exporting your site Gaia Ascension Forerunner! Your export files will be available for the next 7 days.”

Do you all know what that’s about? I certainly don’t.

  • Hi there,

Yes that is because we imported some of your posts into a test site so we can take a closer look without affecting the contents of your site directly.

One thing I noticed on your site, which we are looking into, is the fact that you have several links in your comments that do not load correctly. Can you tell us more about the links to https://banned.video in your comments?

When I try to load that site I get an error message, and we’re working under the assumption that this may also be causing issues on your site

    jerrysarcastic,

banned.video is infowars.com but they had to start their own video site because Big Tech Giants decided to shut down all infowars online access a while back, all in about a week’s time, a concerted effort, might be a couple years ago now – youtube, twitter, facebook, etc. Lots of censorship going on online these days by Big Tech. If what you put out isn’t in line with their agenda, it gets censored. Read my last post and the links I also left in comments there for a taste of what is going on currently.

Now, someone just told me that Big Tech, are hammering on infowars yet again here recently, so Big Tech may be trying to shut down their banned.video site now too, although it’s not through some social networking thing, so I don’t know who would be behind that.

You might be onto something there though as far as why these posts won’t load. I can go through and see if that is a commonality with these posts that have issues. I see now that banned.video seems to not be working today. Things that make ya go “hmmm?”

Well, you may have found the issue. I’ll see what I can do about it for my own blog’s sake, BUT! that might be nothing if I can’t even edit my own posts.

Put “banned.video” in your search engine and see the message there.

  • Digging a bit further, I see that some of your posts contain this oddly formatted link.

Were you trying to embed content from infowars directly? All the posts on your site that have the loading issues also have this failed embed in the post as well.

To clarify we only support a limited number of embeds which you can see listed here: https://wordpress.com/support/category/embedding-content/

Not all embeds will work on WordPress.com sites, but may instead be designed to work with self-hosted websites, which are sites that you create on a “traditional web host” like Bluehost, GoDaddy, etc.

  • You can edit your posts from this alternate location in wp-admin

Once you are there, you can open and edit any of the posts that have the broken embed by launching it in the Classic Editor. To do that, hover over the post title and you will see this option below it.

jerrysarcastic, those “odd” links just came up that way when I put the url in the post. *shrug*

I vaguely remember that “odd” thing, whatever it’s called, being discussed somewhere in the wordpress info somewhere, like it’s some special feature… that I was not shooting for, but, as I said, putting the url in made it come up that way. Any suggestions on how to display the link without that? If not, I could just use the banned.com link and give the video title.

I will look into editing with the Classic Editor. I know the wordpress editor has been updated lately. If a post was originally created with the Classic Editor, is it best / a must to edit it in the future with the Classic Editor?

So… considering the new editor, is there some way to tell if an older post was created using the classic editor or the new one?

oh, also, how does one put in a youtube link WITHOUT actually embedding the video? I went round on that once and looked it up online and did what was suggested and yet never could get it to just provide the link without actually embedding the video. In some cases, like on music videos I’ve posted as a post, I do want it embedded, but in comments, I don’t necessarily want it embedded.

  • as I said, putting the url in made it come up that way. Any suggestions on how to display the link without that? If not, I could just use the banned.com link and give the video title.

The editor will try to embed any link that you just paste in directly on its own line. So to prevent this, don’t just paste the naked link, but instead add it to anchor text.

Type a line of text, essentially a brief description of the link. Then select that text, and paste the link so the text itself becomes linked.

That will prevent the editor from trying to embed the link, and has the added benefits that it’s much better for your SEO (it give search engines context for the link so they can judge it’s relevance to your post’s content and to search terms people use), and it also makes your site more accessible for people with visual impairments who need to use assistive software like screen readers.

If a post was originally created with the Classic Editor, is it best / a must to edit it in the future with the Classic Editor?

It’s not a must, no. If you open a classic editor post in the block editor, the existing content will automatically be added to a classic block, and it will show you the option to convert the content into regular blocks.

The issue here is that the block editor is trying to embed those links. That doesn’t happen in the classic editor, so to “fix” those links, you’ll need to use the classic editor. But once you’ve done that, it should be fine to edit these posts in the block editor going forward.

is there some way to tell if an older post was created using the classic editor or the new one?

The only way to tell is to edit the post and check if it contains the HTML markup for blocks or not.

how does one put in a youtube link WITHOUT actually embedding the video?

Also by adding the link to anchor text, rather than just pasting the naked link, as I described above.
