Posts not shared on Twitter

In the last week or so, tweets of my new blog posts have stopped appearing automatically in my Twitter feed – I haven’t changed any settings and it was previously working perfectly. Can you tell me what I’m doing wrong – what can I do to reactivate the posts to Twitter?
The blog I need help with is dailydiaryww1.wordpress.com
Many thanks.

Hi!
You might try disconnecting and then re-connecting the twitter publicize option.
WordPress has a guide here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/
BTW: Awesome site!

Hello, glad you like it! I have tried that already, both from the WordPress side and the twitter side – it didn’t make any difference.

It seems we are all having different problems with twitter.
Many complain the messages or tweets do not show in their twitter account. I on the other hand see twitter using full length links instead of the usual short link. -
I’ve tagged it for a staff follow-up. Please be patient as staff works in order of requests received.

Perhaps WordPress staff can help answer the query if it’s a wider issue :( it is affecting the stats of my site and therefore the impact of my project.

Hi @exeteranna,
I took a look at the last four posts that failed to Publicize to Twitter. It looks like these are failing because the custom message specified for the post is longer than 140 characters. We’re working on getting this fixed up! I’ll update you as soon as I know more. In the meantime, if you shorten the custom message to less than 140 characters, Publicize to Twitter should work correctly.
@rantingcrow – Going forward, you will see the full link rather than the wp.me shortlink when posts are Publicized.

I’m having the same problem with my posts not going to Twitter, and I’ve always been really careful to make sure my custom messages are 140 characters or less.
-
Jeremy, thanks for your reply. However, I have been auto posting to Twitter for more than ten months and am always extremely careful to ensure the posts are 139 characters or fewer (one less than required, for luck). Please could you continue your investigations as I don’t think you have identified the problem. Many thanks!

I checked your most recent post titled “May 28, 1915”. Here’s the custom message that would have been tweeted (adding the link in):
May 28, 1915. Important and sweeping French successes, especially towards Souchez. German Chancellor makes an abu…https://dailydiaryww1.wordpress.com/2015/05/28/may-28-1915/
When I put this in Twitter, it comes in right at 140 characters. Can you confirm that this was the full message?
It looks like this may be failing right at 140 characters. When I replace that URL with the previous wp.me short URLs used, it comes in at 139 characters so it looks like there might be an issue right around the limit. I’ll pass this along to our team as we continue to investigate!
I just tested this with a post including a custom message significantly shorter than 140 characters, and the post was successful.
@sgundell – It looks like you have several sites on your account. Can you let me know a specific example where this is happening so I can take a look?

Hi Jeremey, that’s interesting: so something weird is going on with the link lengths. That was the full message I attempted to post but it was the usual shortlist that displayed in my draft message and I definitely set it up, with that shortlink, to be less than 140. As I say, my practice hasn’t changed in 10 months.
I will try knocking my messages down another character. If you can confirm what is happening with the links and the maximum number of characters that can now be written in a message that would be really helpful.
Thanks again.

I’ll definitely confirm as soon as I know exactly what’s going on! As mentioned previously, the tweet came out to 140 characters unless I missed a space somewhere so it should have gone to Twitter correctly. We’re looking into why this is occurring!
Regarding the link, we will now be sending the full link to the post when Publicized, not the shortlink.

The Twitter issue should now be fixed. Please let me know if you run into this issue again with custom messages!
