Posts not showing

  • Unknown's avatar

I’m a newbie and still in the process of building my site. I am using the SEOS Premium Magazine theme. I have designated my Home page as a static front page and a page titled “Blog” (how original) for my posts. When adding posts, none of the them show up on the Blog page. There’s no empty box, just nothing – a blank page (except for the headers, footers and top/side menus).

I will gladly send someone a $20 check if they’ll help me resolve this issue!

    Thanks!

    Ray,

The theme you are using on https://bestbuysinojaicom.wordpress.com/ is Sela. There’s some helpful information here: https://theme.wordpress.com/themes/sela/

Also, I came across a thread where Timethief answered a user describing exactly what you’re trying to accomplish.

    See here:

Have a look over both and let me know if that helps. :)

Hi Mariah – thanks for taking the time to reply, much appreciated!

Actually, my site is currently unpublished. What you’re seeing at https://bestbuysinojaicom.wordpress.com/ is actually a test page I started over a year ago when I was first trying out WordPress. I have a different site I’m working on (a paid premium site).

Thank you for attaching the links, which I followed. I was already aware of those steps, so unfortunately they do not fix my issue. A search of these forums turned up a comment that a post page won’t show posts if there’s only 1 post. So I entered 3 or 4 test posts and – voila! – they showed up. But not all of them. The first post is always missing, and then when I reload the page, sometimes other posts go missing. I am instead considering no post pages and using only static pages.

Thanks again for your help thus far!

    You’re most welcome, Ray.

That makes sense, then. I didn’t realize you were referring to a different site altogether. ;)

Is the post that’s not showing up set as private possibly?

Are you able to see the posts that aren’t showing up, or are they disappearing completely?

I checked; the posts were not set as “private.”

If I go to All Posts they all show up there, however, I published 4 posts and only the last of the 4 show up on the designated posts page.

It could also be an issue with the purchased theme I’m using. I will try to contact the company to see if they have any answers.

    Thank you!

    Ray,

It looks like the theme you are using is retired. If you are using this theme: https://theme.wordpress.com/retired/magazine/

If that is the case, this could be why things aren’t working exactly as they should. Themes are retired when they aren’t supporting all of the WordPress features. I will add the modlook tag so that someone on Staff can take a look. I’m not too familiar on whether or not this could be the case with the problem you’re experiencing.

Also, you may want to share the URL of the site in question so Staff can better assist.

  • Hi there,

I don’t see any sites in the account you’re using to post here, making it impossible to properly troubleshoot this. I also don’t see any theme purchases in your account.

What is the site that you need help with? And where did you buy the theme? If you didn’t buy the theme at https://wordpress.com/themes or under My Site ->Themes, but bought it from another vendor, you’re most likely working on a self-hosted WordPress site. If that’s the case we won’t be able to help you here, but your best bet is to contact the theme developer directly instead.

Thank you, Mariah and Kokkieh –

I think the mix up here is that there are two different/accounts logins in play. This account that I’m posting on was never used to publish a WordPress website. I started this account a few months ago in order to play around with the WordPress website builder, just as a test.

I currently have a site that uses GoDaddy Website Builder V.6 that I’ve been running for 5 years. They notified their customers that they will be updating their website builder to a new version, which completely erases the old version and isn’t transferable. So, I’m starting from scratch. Their new version is unacceptable for my needs, so I started to look at WordPress.

I am currently working on a NEW paid Business website with WordPress, however, it is hosted through GoDaddy (and I believe I paid it through GoDaddy). I have a separate login for that account, which takes me into the WordPress system to work on my site. My login page looks like this. I am trying to build the WordPress site concurrently while maintaining my existing site and once complete, I will be able to switch to the new site almost instantly using the same URL. This is important to me because my site is updated every day, usually twice per day. I can’t afford to have any down time.

I bought the SEOS Premium Magazine theme through WordPress and it looks like this. It would seem, however, that there’s no way to have you look at it without giving you access to my account, as the website isn’t up and running yet? If I give you the URL that previews the website I’m trying to build (http://e4a.42e.myftpupload.com/) it only takes you to the maintenance page. The WordPress dashboard and the site only show up if you’re logged into my account.

Sorry this is so twisted. It seems the way I entered into the world of WordPress was not the best way to do it. It sure would help to be able to speak to a live person, but thank you both for your help thus far. : )

I just noticed that I can remove the maintenance feature of my website so you can see it. If you lick on the link above it should work now.

    Thank you

I was able to contact the theme developer and they fixed the issue (and another one I was having as well). It was something in the java script.

Thank you for all your input!

You are most welcome. I’m glad you were able to get it fixed.

In the future, if you have problems with your self hosted site, you’ll want to try posting in the .org forum. This forum, which is WordPress.com is for sites that are not self hosted.

    Best of luck to you!
