posts not showing up under tag search or in freshly pressed
-
I have continued to have this problem with this blog. I normally use the terms ‘jewelry, fashion, and design’ for my tags. However, when I tag surf or look in recently pressed under ‘popular tags’, I never see my posts. What is up? Thanks!
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Staff do the selection of posts for featuring on Freshly Pressed based on the criteria I linked to. There are over 25 million WordPress.com free hosted blogs so I suggest that you do not hold your breath. With regard to tags and appearance of your posts on global tag pages or not please see global tags > missing posts

@limstudio – If I understood you correctly your posts don’t show up on the global tags’ page after you publish the article, right?
First of all, check that you don’t have more than 10 words in tags + categories. If you have more the system doesn’t allow you to show up on the global tags’ page.
Unfortunately, even following the rules doesn’t always help. Do you post often?
The thing you described happens to my blogs all the time. With both of my blogs I used to appear on that tag page for the first week or so and then almost never, although I don’t use more than 10 tags + categories words.
My personal guess is that the system filters the blogs that often post under the same categories/tags so that the tag pages wouldn’t have too many articles of the same blogger. As I said, it’s only my guess.
Whatever it is, that’s the way it works for me – once a week or even less often I can appear under the tag “photos” or “photography” because I constantly use the tags.
Again, my personal opinion is – it’s better to ignore that problem and concentrate on the content of your blog. It will save your time and nerves.
Good luck! -
Timethief,
I guess I didn’t mean the Freshly Pressed featured page. I meant global tags. I don’t meet any of the critieria for banning that you listed. I don’t use more than 10 tags, I don’t post offensive material, I don’t use irrelavent tags, I don’t misuse tags and my blog isn’t private. I suspect it might be the answer Usyaka suggested above. I use the same tags over and over again as I photograph the same things all the time (jewelry).
Special note: I also have very little text. Could that be a problem? It is mostly photos. Another note: I name the photos in the following way: The title is always something like, “click for more options” because I want the mouse hover text to notify my readers that there is a link to more photos. The captions of the photos are almost always something like, “18kt White Gold w/ Diamonds” because I use the caption space to identify the materials used for each piece. Could this repetition on a photo heavy blog be creating spam for your filters?
If so, what can I do to get what I want and still not create spam?
That being said, I have another blog that is political in nature. I have zero problems with that blog. And I use very similar tags on that one too. For example, I always use News and Politics. I also use more specific tags as well, depending on the article. Those are almost never listed under global tags anyway.
Any thoughts?

@ Usyaka,
Yes, exactly! I am so frustrated! But let me ask you: do you include a lot of text on your posts? I don’t and my photos have very similar names as they are all of jewelry in my collection. I am wondering if this might not be part of the problem..
-
Yes, that is probably a factor.
Staff also do tinker with who appears on the global tag pages, but they won’t say how exactly.
The repetition is not a factor, but the lack of actual text probably is a factor.

I feel pretty frustrated! What can I do to change this? I feel banned for no good reason! Is it fair that photo blogs get killed in the WordPress search engines???

The Google crawler cannot read image scripts and therefore using the ALT attribute (providing a description) will allow you to tell the crawler what the image is referring to. If you want your images to be indexed by the search spiders then give your images the full treatment (TITLE tag, ALT tag Description). Read more here > Blogging: SEO images enhance your posts

Just for the record – I do provide “alt” and I get traffic from search engines, but the wordpress tag issue described here still remains (and, to be honest, I believe it will remain no matter what you do. That’s the way the system works)

If the problem exists for photoblogs with no body text, but doesn’t exist for blogs with body text, then…correlation may not be causation but you can try.

I would like to thank everyone here for their great input. While it irritates me a little that the problem exists when a little smart programming could fix it, I can accept the realities. Thank you Timetheif, for your suggestions concerning Alt- descriptions. I think I will create some written blog articles as soon as I am finished setting up my blog photos. That should take care of the problem. btw: this is still Lim Studio- just posting from my other blog- Short Little Rebel! ;-)
