Posts on a page from a single category

  I have a free wordpress.com account. All my posts have been listed in certain categories. For example a chocolate cake post is listed under multiple categories- 1. chocolate 2. dessert.
  Now I want to create a page with all the posts under the category chocolate with their featured image from the posts (like a visual index). I dont mind doing it manually. But it will be great if is on auto mode. Also, I do not understand any coding and plugins. Please help.

  Hi there. This is very possible, once set up it will be completely automatic, and no coding required. Sound good? Then read on.

  To do this you use category pages, which you set up via a custom menu. So, go to Appearance ->Menus in your dashboard, create a new menu, add your existing pages to the menu in the order you want them to appear, and add the categories you want directly to the menu. Set the menu as your primary, save, and voila! As long as your theme displays featured images on the home page it should display them on the category pages as well, though this might vary somewhat between themes.   Category pages only work for one category at a time, though, so if you want one page to display multiple categories you’ll have to create a regular page and use the Display Posts shortcode instead. It’s a bit more technical and can only display up to 100 posts, but still easy to use as long as you read the instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/display-posts-shortcode/ With the shortcode you have to specify whether or not the featured image must be displayed.

  Awesome. Thank you @kokkieh This custom menu thing worked. But I want only thumbnails on the page instead of which, the page is now showing the way posts are shown on the home page.

  If you only want thumbnails then you’ll have to use the shortcode I mentioned second. That allows you to control how much of the post is shown as a preview and how large the included image should be.

  Something like ” [display-posts category="dessert" image_size="thumbnail" include_excerpt="false"] ” should display your posts from the desserts category with a thumbnail image if available, without an excerpt. All the options are covered in the support doc I linked above.

  You add the shortcode to a regular page in the visual editor, publish the page, and then make sure the page is added to your menu.
