Posts per page not working on Twenty Fourteen theme

Hi All, I’ve got a bit of an issue with my site. We’ve got the new twenty fourteen theme and the homepage takes ages to load, because it’s trying to load every post we’ve ever made. I’ve set the ‘Blog pages show at most’ to 1 and it still doesn’t change anything??? I am a bit confused. I’ve set the home page to show my recent posts.

Hi there,
It sounds like you did not disable infinite scroll.
> Dashboard > Settings > reading
scroll down to
__To infinity and beyond Scroll Infinitely
(Shows 7 posts on each load)
remove the checkmark
click “save changes” -

Thank you very much for the advice, I’ve checked under the reading settings and it says infinite scroll is disable because I’ve got a footer widget, which I don’t, or because the theme doesn’t support it.
I don’t know if it’s an issue with the actual theme.
This gets more confusing by the day ;)

You’ve turned all your posts to stickies. Stickies are supposed to show on top of your latest posts, so they override the number of posts per page you set. Go to Posts > All Posts, select all the posts by clicking the rectangle that shows before “Title”, select Edit from the Bulk Actions pulldown, click Apply, select Not Sticky from the Sticky pulldown, click Update.
