Posts preview on a front page, not full posts?

  Hello folks,

  Recently I joined WordPress.com and love it. As I’m adding new posts to my blog, I’d like them to appear on the front page only as a preview (headline + first paragraph) — NOT the phone post.

  Is that up to a theme I’m using, or a widget, or a specific WP setting?

  For instance, on http://www.number10.gov.uk every post on a front page has a date, headline and only one sentence. To read on, one has to click on it. I’d like the same thing on my *first and experimental* blog, owim1.wordpress.com.

  It should be very simple; it seams I’m dumb, I can not even find it in Help. Thanks! :)

  Yoou are using the Greyzed theme and you can insert “the more tag” to split content in your posts which will accomplish the same thing athat you are pointing to on the wordpress.org install. Please see here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/ for instructions. If you prefer you can switch to the Fusion theme or the Inuit Types theme as they have settings for doing this automatically.

  Can you, please, be more specific, how can I insert this tag (for dummies)? :-)

  I’ll try the other themes as well, as you suggested. Thanks a lot! :-)

  p.s. I’m not looking for WordPress.ORG features, just pointed out on an example.

  Staff have provided illustrated step-by-step instructions here > http://en.support.wordpress.com/splitting-content/more-tag/ for instructions.
  You will have to edit existing posts and click the icon numbered 11 in Row 1 of the visual editor which looks like a split page where you want text to split and the “read more” tag to be inserted, and then click “Update”. When it comes to new posts you will have to insert “the more tag” in each one before publication wherever you want the text to break.
