Posts share to Twitter and Facebook but just don't want to go to Google

  • Unknown's avatar

I have my blog connected to Google+ and yet posts are still not being sent through. I’ve disconnected and reconnected several times but it still doesn’t work.

I tried clicking the red “g+ – sign in” button below the other connect options to see if that would make a difference (I don’t understand why there’s the usual “connect” button AND this separate button for G+) but even with popups enabled I get no popup, and nothing happens. This is using Chrome.

So – what do I have to do to get my posts to go through to G+ as they do for Facebook and Twitter? It worked before, now it doesn’t, and I’m back to having to post the links manually.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

First, let me address the multiple Google buttons. The “Connect” button works like other Publicize services in that it should enable your posts to automatically be pushed to Google +.

The “Sign in” button below is actually for Google + authorship to be enabled on your posts. This helps Google to understand who authored a page and can help with search rankings. Google authorship is explained a bit more here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/google-plus-profile/

As for troubleshooting the Publicize issue, can you try the following?

    1. Disconnecting and reconnecting Google + following the instructions here:

      http://en.support.wordpress.com/publicize/#reconnecting-services

    2. When you reconnect the service, please make sure it is set to Publicize your posts publicly in the option shown here:

      https://cloudup.com/c5XDQiBXSKD

    3. Make sure the Google + option is checked when you try to publish your next post

Can give those steps a try and let me know if the Publicize function works correctly?

Thanks for this. I’m not worried about the Sign In button (at least, not for now – maybe later). Main thing is to get posts shared. So I just followed those instructions – unlinked G+ from WordPress, then made sure it wasn’t in the G+ app list (it wasn’t), then set WP to share to G+. Now WP is in the G+ app list. Wrote a short post on WP, published it. WP sends it to Facebook and Twitter, no problem; still nothing on G+. I’m wondering if this has anything to do with the fact that I changed all my passwords a few days ago . . . (damn you, Heartbleed).

(I have no idea what CloudUp is (other than yet another third-party app – I’ll look at it but WP should be able to handle this without add-ons. It was working without help a few weeks ago, after all.)

    Hi Pete,

It looks like the Google + Publicize issue is something we’re already aware of and working towards a solution. I really apologize for the inconvenience. I’ll let you know as soon as you can expect this to be resolved!

Regarding CloudUp, that’s just an app that I use to share screenshots and other files. You certainly don’t need to use it to publish your posts to Google +. I was just using it to share a screenshot!

It looks like the back-room wizards fixed it. I just posted, and it showed in G+ right away. Thanks!

    Hi Pete,

Yep! This should be resolved now. You should not have any additional problems moving forward. Please let me know if you have any trouble!
