Posts showing up in unticked categories

  I’ll be concise. Don’t want to bore you. :)

  A friend of mine and me started up a blog(little traffic for now D: ) a couple of days ago and it took a while to get it structured nicely.

  Well after going through everything I found a tiny little problem.

  I have a category with two child categories.

  Structure is like this:

  Story Collection
  – Daemon
  – – Fallen

  So far I have three posts in the “Fallen” Category. One of those posts is included in “Story Collection” as well as “Daemon”. My understanding is that when I click on “Story Collection” or “Daemon” that only a single post should show, but thats not what happens. I get the other two from the “Fallen” category as well.

  Here is what they look like in my dashboard:

  But this is how they show up when you click on the categories:

  A parent category contains all the posts from it’s subcategories too.

  Not at WordPress.com. This is how Parent categories work. That is why there is a hierarchy in the first place, otherwise there’d be no use for Parent categories at all.

  I understand the hierarchy concept, thats not what I really needed an answer for.

  I’m a sort of novelist who writes a lot more than he should(whether I’m good or not is highly opinionated) and my intentions were to create a category where I could list all my stories.

  Then for each of the stories have a chapter be a different post(I could probably do so at some place like fictionpress, but I don’t like it much).

  I wouldn’t mind, but the problem is all of the posts bundle up under the main category, creating a huge mess. ;`

  Well, if there’s no way it can be solved I guess that’s alright. Thanks for the answers anyway.

  A “list of all your stories” should be a static page or a text widget, not a category.

  I agree with Panos. This isn’t a categories issue. Place you index on a static page or in a text widget.

  Just as an aside I’m wondering if you know about this > http://en.support.wordpress.com/write-a-book/
