posts switch order after a few days
-
I looked on the forums page, but nothing I saw deals with quite the same issue I’m facing.
My newest posts appear at the top of my blog…so far so good. But if you scroll down a few days, suddenly it reverts to my first posts.
Example: posts from Today through Nov 23 are in reverse order (newest first), but right after that, the next post down is from my first day of blogging (Nov 11) and things continue in chronological order from there (oldest first).
Any help?

Usually the post order is affected by marking the posts as sticky posts. And right now, it appears that the all of the posts on your blog, except the very first one, have been marked as stickies. (Note the difference in the appearance of the posts.) Edit each post and uncheck the sticky box.

Oh yeah. And every instance I’ve seen so far of posts being out of order have been exactly that.

Why in god’s name is the sticky function so misused? What is the FAQ on it? How unclear can it possibly be? Virtually every time I see it in the forums it’s because someone’s used it in this way, with this result. People should be told that’s what happens.

The FAQ is fine http://faq.wordpress.com/2006/05/07/i-want-a-certain-post-at-the-top-on-my-blog/ But who around here reads the FAQs (or searches the forums)?
-
All the cases we’ve seen have to do with recently started blogs. My guess is that some inexperienced members see “Keep this post private” and “Stick this post to the front page” right above “Publish”, perceive them as the only two possible but opposite options, i.e. show or no show, and think they HAVE to choose the one or the other. So I have a suggestion for staff: move the sticky option out of there to the Advanced Options section. (Should I tag modlook or send word to Support?)

Very good idea! But I just thought of another – how about a tips thing connected to each of the options? A little i with a brief explanation (and a link to the FAQ) or a hover thing.

This crops up in Support too.
In 2.7 the box – which is still on the Write screen – looks like this. Choose Password protect or Private and the sticky option is not there.
Once you have published, that same area looks like this.
There are many ways this could be tackled but 2.7 has had a whole heap of usability testing – from real people, not some test stuff – and what we have is what has been working.

We don’t have an exact release date yet, but WordPress 2.7 will be coming to WordPress.com quite soon.

You can always get a look at http://tamba2.org.uk/wordpress/TestTrack/
The wordpress.com version will obviously have some differences but it’s not far off. -
