posts wont publish immediately or publish when scheduled

My blog posts will not publish when I hit Publish Immediately…they say they are scheduled. Yet, even the scheduled posts won’t post. My husband is having the same problems with his blog and we are both using different themes.

I see a recent post on your site, were you able to resolve this on your own? If not, could you make screenshot of what you see when you try to post? If you add it to your media library, I’ll be able to see it there. Here are instructions on making a screenshot if you need them.

The problem seems to have to do with the new WordPress posting option. Once I reverted back to the old version of WordPress posting, I finally got it to post.However, when I was in the more current version, I would click “Publish Immediately” and then it would say it was scheduled to post in the next 5 minutes. Five minutes would pass and it would still not post.
I had to go to the WordPress admin, click on posts, and then edit and publish it that way. The new and current version would not post.
I just tried to create another post so I could take screen shots and of course…it published when I clicked publish from the new version. But, that has not been the case with the last 2-3 posts I’ve created. As mentioned, my husband is having the same issue (I have admin rights to his site as well). His blog is SportsMonte.com.

In addition to choosing the “Publish Immediately” option in the left column, did you click the “Publish” button at the bottom of the post? Both steps are required.

Yes, I do that. I make sure the Publish Immediately button is clicked and then I click Publish at the bottom of the post.
This only happens in the new version of WordPress posting. It does not happen in the old version.

That’s odd – I just tried to reproduce this with a few test posts, but they all seemed to publish immediately when I click “Publish” from the new editor. I even tried to save it as a draft, exit, and then, publish the post after going back into the editor, but it published immediately.
For these posts that you had trouble with, were they previously scheduled posts that you decided to change to Publish Immediately? Trying to track down why this might be occurring.

I know…it doesn’t happen all the time. I did a test post and it posted just fine. I will type up a post, then hit Publish (and make sure Publish Immediately is checked) and it will default to scheduled (usually within the next few minutes). The post will not post at the scheduled time that WordPress chose either.So, then I will try to publish again…it will default to schedule. I’ve tried to change the scheduled time and it still doesn’t post. Just sits in the scheduled area. I cannot get it to post until I go to the old version of wordpress and select Publish Now.

Thanks for the additional details Kelly! When you’ve noticed this happening, do you remember if you started the post in the classic editor? We’re aware of some issues similar to the following:
1. Start a post in the classic editor. Schedule it for a later time.
2. Open the post in the new editor. Status should be scheduled, but it reads “Draft” instead.
So, there seems to be some inconsistencies with posts started in wp-admin and carried on into the new editor. I’m wondering if this is related.
