Potential Threat

    Hello team!

I’ve come to notice that just recently my little blog has been getting an abnormal flow of absolutely random comments from well, random people who aren’t signed up with WordPress or Gravatar. To top this off, I’m sure that they might have smashed their keyboard to punch in the their ‘website’ when commenting.

I’m happy that someone’s been reading my blog and all but after half an hour of constant notifications, I started to figure out that the nature of these comments are short of normal.

About the comments themselves, each of them have one intentionally misspelled word (as if it’s a requirement to bypass the spam detection?) and they don’t have anything to do with the posts and/or comments if they are replies.

I can’t be clicking the marked as spam button for every single comment that pops up once every ten minutes so please look into this as it can actually lead to another blogger facing the exact same unfortunate issue!

    Thank you in advance!

  • Hi,

That sounds incredibly frustrating. There are some tips here on how to protect your WordPress.com site from unwanted comments: https://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/

One specific tip on that list, that may help in your situation, is to temporarily set your comments to moderated. You can set your moderation settings so that only new visitor comments are moderated – that way, anyone who regularly comments on your site can still comment normally, and you won’t have to approve their comments.

More information on how to set up comment moderation is here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/discussion-settings/#before-a-comment-appears
