Powerpoint uploaded twice, will not display

This looks like a very attractive site, and one that is seemingly easy to use. But I can’t get started. Following the documentation here, http://en.support.wordpress.com/images/gallery/ , I have tried to upload a .ppt file that I would like to display as a slide show in my wordpress blog.

I was able to upload it. In fact I uploaded it twice. But after that, nothing but total failure.

It seems that on my blog there is now a link for people to download the .ppt file (which is useless, because I want people to be able to SEE the slide show without downloading it – and that is what I -think- is supposed to be feasible here).

I have tried to find ways to open my “gallery” and/or change display options, but I can find nothing of the sort. I just end up back at the same page that tells me I can upload something else and/or write text. Neither of which is the objective.

On a related note: on the WordPress menu bar, at the far right, there is an orange box with some parallel lines in it. While clicking on any of the other icons on the menu bar works, this one does not. Clicking on it just results in an empty white balloon that hangs.

Same with the other wordpress menu bar, which shows an icon looking like a bell on the far right. Clicking on that icon likewise results in an empty white balloon that never fills, just hangs.

Such a nice looking site – but monumental frustrations. I did have hopes.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

After much persistence and changing browsers from Firefox to Safari, I was able to successfully achieve the step “Create New Gallery” – which presumably contains the powerpoint that I just uploaded to that gallery.

But when I go to the next step, “Edit Gallery,” where there are -supposed- to be things to edit, all I see is “No items found.”

    Mucho discouraging.

This has wasted a lot of my time. It was going to be a good thing to get started here, but the message I’m getting is that whatever it is that WordPress does, it doesn’t display powerpoints.

    Too bad.

PS – I’m not giving up entirely. If someone knows how to make wordpress really do this, I’m interested. But I have at least given up trying to figure this out on my own. Too much frustration.
    Thanks.

Galleries and slideshows are comprised only of images files that you upload into your Media Library.

Thanks so much for posting here. :)

    Thanks for all the help!
So far, I tried Slide Share – but it wouldn’t let me proceed without joining LinkedIn (why make me do that?), and then it tells me my file size is too big to upload.
    Will try another suggestion.

I have also made voice over videos of my PPT’s and then embedded the video (used YouTube & Vimeo) –

odd about joining linkedin – but then some software tries to install junk when you update – sucks actually – getting tired of changing the check boxes or resetting browser settings

Thanks – I was aware of the YouTube option, but unfortunately I don’t want this to play as a video. I want people to be able to click through it at their own pace. :)

And if I wanted to do a YouTube video, I could simply do that on YouTube. No need for WordPress at that point.

It now appears that all WordPress does is serve as a link to PowerPoint presentations that you may have uploaded elsewhere. That is, if you have a PPT on MS OneDrive, WordPress provides a portal that will play the PPT as it resides on OneDrive.

For me what this says is that I should simply abandon WordPress and go directly to someplace that will host and play the PPT with no further ado.

If anyone knows different, please do advise. WordPress has a good look and a good vibe – but it’s not worth the complications of having to make it a secondary portal.

I’m just tagging this for Staff to alert them to the problem on this page that the PPT does not load in Chrome39, but it does in IE11: http://en.support.wordpress.com/powerpoint-web-app/

    @JenT,

I’m seeing the example ppt load correctly in Chrome v39.0.2171.95:

Microsoft OneDrive PowerPoint Web App Support WordPress com

Would you mind taking a screenshot of how it appears in your Chrome browser?

Hi Alex, All is well now. :) Have no idea why it wouldn’t show up in Chrome but did at nearly the same time in IE11. Probably gremlins!

    Probably gremlins!

They get in the way of everything. :)

    Thanks for reporting though!
