Pre purchase Shelf theme enquiry 2

2. I’m concerned for the width of the columns being a little too narrow for (long) short stories. I’m guessing this is to work well on tablets and phones? But for desktops seems too narrow and small for easy read. Admittedly I’m working on a 27″ screen which has a different perspective. Can they be viewed larger/ Any advice. Just trying to find the right theme for me and would like shelf to work well for me. thanks.

You’re welcome. Also see this section please in the event you want to purchase a premium theme http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/premium-themes/

P.S. I forgot the say this too. When you use a responsive layout theme you disable the Mobile theme here > Appearance > Mobile

The picture is starting to come together, I’m in the planning/reasearching phase. Would you say using a responsive layout theme is less mobile/pad friendly? Could influence my choice of theme. I will check out all your recommendations, thank you.

Please note – I find way wide columns difficult to read unless the spacing between the lines is adjusted properly – so making things too wide might turn off visitors or force them to change their browser size to not get a head ache or to read your stories

I’m with you. I don’t have a monitor the size of a drive-in movie screen. My monitor is 17 inches and it’s all I want. My details from http://supportdetails.com are:
Screen Resolution 1024 x 768
Browser Size 1024 x 559I detest having to use a horizontal scroll bar happens when folks use wide themes like Ideation and Intent or like Nishita. I don’t follow blogs with themes and customizations that make me scroll horizontally.

Would you say using a responsive layout theme is less mobile/pad friendly?
Absolutely not! It’s the reverse. Responsive Web Design: is The Gold Standard
The mobile theme is a completely different theme. Know that responsive width means the layout adapts depending on the size of the device being used to view your site. When responsive width themes are viewed on mobiles sidebars appear below the posts in order to provide as much space as possible for reading. That is why we disable the Mobile theme > Appearance > Mobile

Thanks, I really appreciate your feedback. At this point what experienced audiences like and don’t like is so helpful to me. I just notice the columns on shelf theme are a little narrower than on blog specific pages. (My page is going to be a collection place of my work in a variety of formats, audio/visual works, short stories rather than a blog but will inspire me to keep making work) -
Thanks time thief, you’ve got me headed in a direction and you’ve cut me out my work for today. Appreciated. So generally speaking, you don’t like pages that use horizontal scrolling at all? Wish I had a smaller screen to view, it would help me see how most others on smaller screens see it. Ta.
