Pre transfer image files missing
-
Can someone help me figure out how to add my pre-transfer image files to my WordPress.org blog. I’ve talked to my host several times, and each tech rep I’ve spoken to has said that there was something wrong with my export file and that’s why my pictures are now missing. It’s been almost a month since the transfer, and I’m nervous to experiment on my own. Any insight or help is appreciated!

What is the URL of your wordpress.org install?
When you create an XML export file the images are attached to it. When you import you are prompted and asked do your want to include the attachments? http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/I’ll tag this thread for a Staff follow-up. Thank you so much!
One quick question – will this effect any of the posts (and images) I’ve shared on my blog since the transfer?

I’m still getting “Failed to import” messages for all my image files. Is there any way to transfer manually?

It looks like the site you are trying to export is currently private. That will prevent the export file from creating links to your image files for importing into your new site.
If you set your WordPress.com site visibility (Under Settings > Reading) to “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” and create a new export, it should now work for you.
If you need me to generate a new export file, let me know.

Do you mind sending me the export file?
I think I’ve unintentionally messed things up enough for now!

Please note that you will need make your site public for the duration of the export/import process:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/export/#exporting-media-from-private-sitesIf you are prepared to complete the process as soon as I send you a link, I can change your site settings and generate the export file, and then as soon as you have confirmed the images have imported, you can change your settings back.

I went ahead and changed to the “Discourage search engines from indexing this site” setting in the Reading tab.
I am able to complete the process when you send me the export file.
Thank you!

Hooray! Apologies for not catching the private blog issue initially, and I’m glad it worked this time for you.
