Preferred commentors

I recently read that the New York Times has implemented a ‘preferred commentor’ status that allows comments by people so designated to post immediately, without moderation. People become preferred by invitation from the NYTimes.

I would love to have this ability; I was forced by the conduct of a few jerks to institute comment moderation, and really don’t like for my thoughtful commentors’ posts to be delayed until I can get online to approve them (which I often can’t do in a timely fashion).

    How ’bout it, WordPress?

You can already set the comments so that a commenter must have a previously approved comment before their comments go live. That’s all we have for now.

Yes, raincoaster, I know that. However, that setting only allows people who’ve posted previously approved comments to post new ones. That’s not what I want to do… I would still like to allow anyone to comment, I just want to give the regulars I choose a pass.

And, as the name “Ideas” would seem to indicate, this section is for people to post suggestions for future enhancements, which is what I’m doing. :)

You have posted to the correct forum to make suggestions for future feature improvements to Staff. What we Volunteers experience is that members are not aware of the Discussion settings whereby they can set their blog so comments from first time commenters need a one time moderation approval only, and after that all of their comments are posted automatically.

This page > Settings > Discussion
Discussion settings is where you set up defaults for comments.
We can also override the default settings and enable or disable future comments on any post or page.
