Preformatted Paragraph

  I have not launched my website, so perhaps this issue will not appear then. When I preview or publish a preformatted paragraph, it is displayed within a shaded gray block. I want the flexibility of having my spaces a particular way, but will my preformatted paragraphs always appear within this gray block as opposed to a standard paragraph, which is displayed with white space, not within a rectangular gray box?
