Premature charges

  Hello,

  I received an email on July 11th reminding me that my site http://www.perfectionnervotreanglais.com would be due for renewal in 30 days. The next day, you charged my account and overdrew it, putting my account in chaos and causing me numerous overdraft fees. I’m very upset and plan to dispute the charges with my bank. I don’t understand why you reminded me that I had 30 days, and then proceeded to charge me 30 days in advance. Please advise.

  I’m afraid that is something they do to ensure continuity of service especially if you have a custom domain. The 30 day window gives time to sort out any issues such as a card having expired and requiring updating.

  Renewal occurs 30 days before the expiration date for yearly plans, and on the expiration date for monthly plans. Your subscription is extended from the original expiration date, so you do not lose any time you paid for by renewing 30 days in advance.
  If you have a yearly subscription, you will be notified by email before your card is charged

  Be careful regarding disputing the charge with the bank as by purchasing the plan you agreed to WordPress.com’s terms and conditions. If you let your domain expire on 11th August it may work out more expensive/difficult if you wish to recover it later.

  Disputing the charge with the bank will also cause more problems and fees, so can I recommend against that? We can refund the charge if needed so you have time to work that out:
