Prematurely closed Thread – Question about Custom domains.

Refer to this thread (in which I was not so helpfully trolled at the end):
    https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/i-renamed-my-account-and-want-to-reclaim-my-old-username-and-blog-address-help?replies=5

Nutshell – my username/domain were accidentally changed for WordPress.com. I’m attempting to recover them, or at least assess what the impact of them being lost forever means for my ability pay for and use the WordPress.com hosted service.

Open questions about the use of custom domains on WordPress.com:

    • My now incorrect username shows up in forums like this even if I use a custom domain for my blog, correct?
    • What about when I comment on other people’s WordPress.com hosted blogs, will that also display my custom domain or will it show my incorrect username as it seems to now?
    • Does WordPress actually offer customer service that doesn’t involve posting in open internet forums? I’m happy to pay for actual customer service personnel.

No offense, but I’m only interested in exchanges with actual staff members, unless someone can definitively answer the third question which would allow me to speak to an actual customer service person (or trade emails). I know people I can call directly at WP, but I really wanted to resolve this through the normal customer service channels because that tells me more about whether this is a company I want to do business with than anything else.

And of course I hit submit without realizing the “No” at the end of the first question got moved up there. The last paragraph was supposed to be “No offense, but…”.

Caveat to that – if you can be helpful, without being snarky, I certainly welcome questions to the above from anyone.

    Thanks!

    No.

@raincoaster – Thanks! That explains a LOT then. It’s no wonder this has been so difficult.

I’m guessing the company is solely focused on pushing user-hosted installs and doesn’t give their hosted solution much attention or support, which is a shame because it actually seems like the more compelling package to me (particularly from a security perspective). Still, doesn’t bode well if I had a complex support issue down the road… being likely to get a similar “we don’t do that, please go away” reaction or being forced to publish potentially sensitive user information publicly (IP’s, etc) in order to get support (if I have issues with spam, trolls, etc) doesn’t give me warm fuzzies :)

I guess I’ll just go with my second choice then – no support (even if paid) is a deal breaker. I really appreciate your response!
