Premium Acct./Domain Hosting
-
Timethief,
You have helped me before and I appreciate you clear and thorough answers. I am very technologically challenged (and internet inept). And have a few questions. I promise to be clear and appreciative.
I currently have a WordPress.COM blog (free). It is fairly new. I was considering buying a domain for it. I can purchase the domain from other sites for less than is offered with WordPress.
1. Can I buy the domain somewhere else (ex. GoDaddy) and have WordPress simply host it?
2. If so, I was unable to ascertain how much just the hosting would cost with WordPress.com. Do you know how much that would be; or where I can find that information?
3. Is there any benefit to having some other site host it?
That’s a good start. I know you have many others requesting help and I appreciate your time.

Yes, that’s possible. To map a domain you already own to your WordPress.com blog, you will need to purchase the Domain Mapping upgrade. You can find this upgrade by going to Store -> Domains on your blog’s dashboard and follow the steps there.
Please find additional instructions for mapping your domain here:

To clear up any confusion, WordPress.com and WordPress.org are two different entities. At WordPress.com, we provide hosting, support, and tons of features for blogs. Users also have the option to purchase a variety of upgrades to customize the look and feel of their blog. WordPress.org is a software for self-hosted sites. With WordPress.org, users are provided access to all backend files and can upload custom themes and plugins.
