Premium Business – truly unlimited bandwidth?

Hi, I’m considering moving my self-hosted WordPress blog to WordPress.com’s “Premium Business” solution ($299 / year).

The sales page states “unlimited bandwidth,” but is that really the case? My site’s current bandwidth is about 1.5 GB to 2 GB per day, and my traffic is about 6,000 to 10,000 visits / 18,000 to 30,000 pageviews per day. Based on those numbers, most other web hosting companies charge about $150/month, so the $299/year makes me pause.

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Yes, bandwidth is unlimited but do not think you are able to do everything you can do on a WordPress.ORG install on a WordPress.COM blog. See here for details of all 3 plans http://store.wordpress.com/bundles/
Then read this comparison very closely http://support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/
    Business bundle http://store.wordpress.com/premium-upgrades/wordpress-business/

Note that none of the plans allow you FTP access or the ability to upload your own themes or third party themes or plugins or blogger initiated advertising. WordPress.com blogs cannot be equipped for eCommerce transactions. If you need a site that requires a custom theme or plugins — e.g., if you want to be able to sell things directly from your site, or if you want to install discussion forums — a self-hosted WordPress site might be right for you.

    Thanks for the quick response.

Fortunately the site is not e-commerce, and all that traffic is not generating enough revenues to cover the server costs, so I’m not too concerned about financial opportunities. I can probably deal with the themes limitation, but do you know if a Business package allows access to change PHP code in the header and footer? My site is affiliated with a major news source that requires custom coding for tracking visitors, etc.

    Thanks again.

PHP code can’t be changed at all on WordPress.COM. We all share the exact theme code (where the PHP would be changed) so no code can be changed for security & reliability reasons

Affiliate links are also an issue

Technically it’s not PHP code; I guess it’s HTML code. In other words, adding javascript code (such as for Quantcast tracking) to the header.php file.

No script allowed either. Quantcast is built in, but it seems to be to be activated for you to see the stats. I use Quantcast with the site linked to my name which is hosted here.

No code can be added to the header. There is the ability to verify a blog for Google Web Master Tools built in.

But for the record, bandwidth is unlimited even for free blogs here at WP.com.
