Premium Content – is this possible using classic editor not block editor

I want to convert a number of my posts to premium paid content which I can do on my plan. I have hundreds of posts. Other then re-formatting and re-writing them all one by one in the block editor, which would take forever……is there an easier way to do this using for example a code/html line with the classic editor so for example after the “more” line is premium content only?? Or is there a simpler way to apply premium to all existing posts without having to go into each one??

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  • Hi there,

There is not a way to use the premium content option in the classic editor, it is only available as an option in the block editor.

I may not be understanding this however. There is no need to manually convert your content. All you need to do is edit the blog post (which you would need to do to set what content you want to be available by subscription only) and when you are viewing the post in the editor, you can click on this option when it appears:

Once you do that the post will be converted to a native blocks format and you would then be able to determine what pieces you want to offer by subscription only, by following the steps here:

Use the Premium Content block to accept one-time, monthly, or annual payments on your website for access to exclusive content that you create – video, images, text, or anything at all. Engage your audience with exclusive content while earning money to support your website. This feature is available for all sites with a WordPress.com paid plan. If you prefer to work strictly within the Classic Editor our paid subscriber system will not work but you do have the option to upgrade to the Business Plan and then you could use any plugin or theme “designed for WordPress” of which there are several options for paid memberships that you could consider

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

Thank you ….that is a help. I sort of worked it out over the weekend, and it is not as complex as it seemed at first once I discovered how to convert to blocks, and how to copy and place the old content into the new containers etc. A bit of messing around trying to get the buttons readable, and making sure the order of things was correct – but all working now as far as I can see …thank you. One thing I did notice that if there was a “more” in the classic edition – that caused problems, so have to be careful no “more” commands are left in any of the old posts in the classic editor versions.
