Premium Plan Backups
-
I have the wp premium plan for my blog. I purchased the domain name at network solutions. question: am I officially being hosted by wordpress? . question: will my contents and database be backed up automatically, periodically ?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

http://fashionandyourlooks.com/ – is hosted on WordPress.COM
They have three massive server farms that mirror each other on a continuous basis
They also have a backup system in case the server farms are hit by meteors or whatever that they can get things up and running – you are on the same servers as folks like CNN – however the backup system is not there to protect you in case you delete something or delete your site
I will flag this for the staff in case they have some more to add or things have been upgraded recently

Nothing more to add really, auxclass covered everything. :)
We do make backups for our own purposes (catastrophic loss of data, which has never happened, etc), but cannot guarantee that they’ll be available to you.
-
Thank you. But specifically, will the content and database (for my blog) be backed up automatic and periodically. Is there a link so that I will get confirmation that backups have been done for my blog?
-
Essentially, no to all of the above. We backup everything periodically in bulk, so that if a catastrophic issue happens to all of WordPress.com, we can recover everything.
We can’t guarantee that, if you specifically need to restore something, we’ll be able to separate what you need from everything else.
In short, if all of WordPress.com goes blank, we’ve got you covered. But, if you accidentally delete a post or image from your site, we probably won’t be able to help.

Thanks James
suggestion for more WordPress.COM income – you own Vault Press – have an upgrade that would protect against the deleted Post, Picture or whatever – bit of extra design would be required to prevent a rouge Admin from trashing the backup – but I have a bit of faith it could be figured out

for crying out loud – then get off the whatever – the backup you could shout about – as opposed to the Blue Death Editor that has many up in arms or the new 7 day stats display thing
thanks

If only I had more solid development chops (that you’d actually trust to backup your site), I’d do it myself. :)

yes the basic 1 minute overview makes it look simple –
for starters what is the frequency? Daily – waste of resource for my site since I normally don’t post oftener than once a week – so maybe backup when a new Post or Page is published or edited – but then what about the sites that publish 12 Posts a day – every Post would also then be very wasteful of resources
How about format?? Only readable to bring back something while online? Or a file I can download and work with on my PC?
Incremental or full backup?
And I could go on for a while but I know you get the idea – – but something to maybe pitch in the suggestion basket or something
thanks & have a nice week

Export only has the text – not the media and it is tough to sort out an individual Post in the XML file
-
True, but export is the tool we’ve got at hand right now. So I’ll just copy/paste my reply from another thread on this:
It is also a very good idea to export your site from time to time to have a back up copy tucked away. Here’s more on exporting https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/
Make sure you have backup copies of any images you have used in your posts regardless. Media files are not included in the export file.
Backing up your site independently of WordPress.com is especially important if you have more than one Administrator or Editor on your site since they are able to delete just about everything except the site itself. If another Admin or Editor permanently deletes content, WPcom will not be able to recover it for you.
-
Yeah, export is handy for keeping a record of your content. I wouldn’t consider it a full backup, because it doesn’t contain your media, but if you still have your media saved locally and don’t mind re-uploading it, it’s better than nothing.
