Premium plan cancellation

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

Yesterday I purchased Premium plan and registered a domain and email. I discovered, unfortunately, that this WordPress.com solution is too limited for my needs. I have decided to move my domain to a web hotel that supports WordPress and cancel my premium plan.

My questions are, what happens to my registered domain and email if I cancel my Premium plan? I still need them.

I got an IP address from the service provider to redirect my domain to their servers. What do I do with it?

You can retain the domain URL, and get a refund for the remainder of the upgrade, and then move your content into a wordpress.ORG install.

Know that if you cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it so if you want to keep it and use it on another site please let Staff know that.

You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard, cancel an upgrades, claim a refund for any qualified upgrades, and disable auto-renew.

WordPress.com provides a 30-day refund on all upgrades except Domain Registrations, Domain Renewals, and Guided Transfers. The refund period for Domain Registrations and Renewals is 48 hours.

Note: It takes from 1 – 2 weeks for the refund to be received.

Provided you are logged in under the same username account that purchased the upgrade, and you are within the allowed time frame for refunds, you can cancel and request a refund from your dashboard > Store > My Upgrades. You can also disable auto-renew there. http://en.support.wordpress.com/my-upgrades/#canceling-upgrades

    re: IP addresses
WordPress.COM blogs do not have permanent IP addresses. IP addresses here can and do can change over time and your domain may stop working if you rely on them. For more information about domain mapping and IP addresses please read https://en.support.wordpress.com/ip-addresses/

Rather than listing current IPs here, I’ll link back to this thread since it shows how to find them: https://wordpress.org/support/topic/whitelist-ips-1 From: https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/what-is-your-ip?replies=11#post-2515044

Thank you so much for your reply.

I have subscribed to this topic and yes, I would definitely like to keep the domain.

There are 3 different hedlines under my Purchases:

    1. Site plan – WordPress.com Premium
    2. Domain registration (included in the site plan)
    3. Google Apps (includes the email)

Cancelling only the first (Site plan) and requesting a refund will not have any effect on 2 and 3? I will still have my domain and email address?

I will look into those links you provided.

    Thank you!

  • Hi there,

If you cancel your Premium Plan on the Purchases page it should ask you whether you want to cancel Premium and keep the domain, or cancel Premium completely. Select the option to keep the domain. You will then be refunded for the cost of Premium minus the cost of the domain.

Google Apps is a separate subscription, so that shouldn’t be affected.

To add the IP address of your new host to your account, see the instructions here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/setting-custom-a-records/

Let me know if you need more help with this.
