Premium Plan – options not working

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi Team — I just started the 14 day Premium trial — in order to test adding a new free theme (by uploading the zip from my computer using the Add New button), but the Add New button under Themes is not appearing. Also, the custom domain name option is not appearing under Settings. These are both options offered in Premium. Please help?

    Hi there,

In order to test adding a new free theme (by uploading the zip from my computer using the Add New button), but the Add New button under Themes is not appearing.

It isn’t possible to add outside themes at WordPress.com, even with the Premium bundle. You can read more about this here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/themes/adding-new-themes/

We do offer over 250 themes for you to choose from though!

    http://themes.wordpress.com

Also, the custom domain name option is not appearing under Settings.

You can setup a custom domain following the instructions here:

    Register a New Domain

Can you give that a try?

Hi Jeremy, Thanks for your detailed response with links.

    1) The theme I’m trying to upload is not custom, it is a FREE wordpress theme. I googled free wp themes and downloaded “Arcade” for FREE as a zip here:

    Arcade Basic

I found it in this 100+ responsive themes list by “themesstuff”:

    http://www.themesstuff.com/wordpress-themes/100-free-responsive-wordpress-themes.html

Then I go to my dashboard under themes, and the Arcade theme does show up, but for some reason it is NOT FREE. The reason I started my account is because I found this free theme I’d like to use. Please help?

I notice the site above is a .org site. Does that make a difference? Thanks.

    2) I could not find the “domains” page from my dashboard, so thank you for providing the direct link!

I tried “registering” and got the message that my url was already taken — which is probably because I just set it up myself (duh)– so I “mapped” it, and that worked. BUT…

(Btw, my new acct is for “bmeta”, and I just changed it from http://www.bmeta.wordpress.com to http://www.bmeta.com (for the trial)…)

When I type in my url WITHOUT the .wordpress extension now, it says the page has been suspended:

    http://bmeta.com/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi

    Sigh. Please help?

I appreciate your time. Thank you.

    Hi!

    Please see below:

Then I go to my dashboard under themes, and the Arcade theme does show up, but for some reason it is NOT FREE. The reason I started my account is because I found this free theme I’d like to use. Please help? I notice the site above is a .org site. Does that make a difference? Thanks.

The .org portion of the site does make a difference. So, the link you mentioned (wordpress.org/themes/arcade-basic) is only available for self-hosted sites.

It looks like that theme is actually a “lite” version of the full theme. You can see the full self-hosted variation of that theme here:

    http://themes.bavotasan.com/themes/arcade/

You’ll notice that the cost of the theme at WordPress.com mimics the cost of the full theme for self-hosted sites:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/arcade/

To recap, the cost of the theme will be $69 if you want to use it on your WordPress.com blog.

If you’re looking for a free theme that has a similar layout, here are two that might work:

    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/goran/

    http://theme.wordpress.com/themes/edin/

Would those fit what you’re looking for?

When I type in my url WITHOUT the .wordpress extension now, it says the page has been suspended:
    http://bmeta.com/cgi-sys/suspendedpage.cgi
    Sigh. Please help?

I believe you’ll just need to change the name servers to point to WordPress.com following the steps here:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/#how-to-change-your-name-servers

Currently, they’re pointing to servercares.com. They’ll need to point to WordPress.com.

Can you give that a try?

    Hey Jeremy, Thanks!

I’m grateful for your clarification here. It’s very helpful. And I am able to make an informed decision now. I think what I actually need instead of a new wp account and theme is a different solution for my situation. So I’ll go ahead and close this account now. But thank you kindly. Your help has been greatly appreciated and you’ve answered my questions quite satisfactorily.

    Best

Not a problem! Since you deleted your site, I went ahead and cancelled the upgrades from your account. Please let me know if you need anything else!

Thank you so much. There is just so much to keep track of! I appreciate your help. I should be all good.
