Premium plan refund – charged twice for domain registration
-
Hello. Six days ago I signed up for a free WordPress blog, and purchased a domain for $26. A few days after that, wanting to customize the site, I upgraded to Premium ($79). Now I am hoping to cancel my premium plan and transfer my domain. However, when I try to cancel my plan, I’m told that I will only be refunded the cost of the premium plan minus the domain charge ($26), a refund of $53. My bank statement shows I have already been charged the original $26 for the domain I purchased when I did not have Premium, so I am basically being charged for the domain twice. Is there any way to rectify this? Thank you!

I’d like to add, in case it’s helpful, that I believe I used the domain credit to map an existing domain (the one I had previously purchased, http://www.annanoyes.net). To my knowledge, I never registered a new domain as part of my premium plan.
As stipulated by WordPress:
– If you used the domain credit to register a new domain as part of your plan, and the refund period for the registration has lapsed, the cost of the registration will be subtracted from your refund.
– If you used the domain credit to map an existing domain, or if you are canceling within the refund period for the registration, you will receive a full refund. Thanks again!

Hi there,
It looks like your custom domain, which you bought on 6 December, was linked to your Premium Plan when you bought that on the 10th. I have unlinked it, so you should be able to cancel it now for the full refund.
Note that you won’t be able to transfer your domain until it is 60 days old. This is an anti-fraud measure that all registrars have to abide by, so for now you will have to map your domain to wherever you want to host your site. You can find full instructions here:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/move-domain/If you don’t mind, what features are you missing that makes you want to move your site elsewhere? Perhaps we already offer something similar and you just haven’t found it yet :)

Thank you for your reply! The cancelation seems to have gone through perfectly now.
No features were missing, I just found it too difficult to build my website exactly how I wanted it (I have no knowledge of code, and felt over my head). I’m hoping a website builder with drag-and-drop tools will be a little more intuitive for a beginner like me (though I’ll miss the beautiful look of my WordPress site). Anyway, thanks again.

Here’s some help with getting started:I recommend using the step by step tutorial linked to the bottom of your Admin page at https://learn.wordpress.com
See also the “Video Quick Start” tutorial http://en.support.wordpress.com/video-quick-start/
The only relevant support documentation is all found at the Support link http://en.support.wordpress.com which is also linked to on the bottom of your Admin page.

To add to what @timethief said, you don’t need to know any code to build a site on WordPress.com. We are limited in how you can customise a theme, but otherwise WordPress.com is much simpler than a self-hosted WordPress.org setup, where you won’t have support and will need to dig into the code should anything break. You can see a complete breakdown of the differences here:
http://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/I suggest you work through the tutorials @timethief provided and get to know WordPress.com a bit better, before you commit to the effort and expense of running a self-hosted site.
Let us know if you have any more questions.

I cancelled my $18 domain purchase on Nov 27. I gor the confirmation email and all to cancel but it still has not reflected on my account. Instead it shows I ws billed $18 twice. I would like my money back but it’s so difficult to get in touch with someone with regards to this.

Hi, I just went to one of my blogs & the site was down through WP asking for “mapping renewal charges” at $13.00. I was charged twice by “WPCHRG.COM”. Please advise how I can resolve this? My blog domain is: ModernLALiving.com
