Premium Plan Upgrade?

I’m seriously thinking about upgrading to the premium plan. However, I have a few questions before I commit. First, I’ve read the features on the WordPress site, but can you help push me ‘over the ledge’ as it were? In other words, how would the premium plan benefit my blog? Second, will I lose readers since I will be receiving a custom domain name with the premium plan? Any help is greatly appreciated!

There are various reasons why you might want to upgrade your WordPress.com site from a free plan to a WordPress.com Personal plan or higher.
Each WordPress.com plan comes with features of its own. If you are just getting started with WordPress.com and are looking to only write content, the free WordPress.com plan should be sufficient.
Free WordPress.com plan gives you a blog on the WordPress.com subdomain (like example.wordpress.com)
If you need to use a custom domain, you will have the get the WordPress.com Personal plan at the minimum.
WordPress.com Premium plan offers unlimited premium themes, CSS support (which is not available on free and WordPress.com Personal plan) and the ability to monetize your site + VideoPress (upload videos to your WordPress.com site)
WordPress.com Business plan is the most powerful plan and offers ability to upload custom themes and use plugins.
To summarize, it depends on your needs. You can look at the WordPress.com pricing page to see which one fits you the best.
Second, will I lose readers since I will be receiving a custom domain name with the premium plan?
No, you will not lose readers. All your traffic to baldreformer.wordpress.com will automatically be redirected to your custom domain.
