Premium theme for wordpress.org

Hi I have a premium theme on wordpress.com I’d like to use on wordpress.org please can you either send me a download of the theme or refund me so I can buy it for wordpress.org

Premium themes are not able to be transferred or downloaded from WordPress.com.
However, you can try asking the theme author if they would be willing to provide a discount coupon or the theme files for you to download and use on your new, self-hosted WordPress.org site.

Having paid $75 for the theme, I would hope for that price it could be used universally transferred across platforms. For those users who are still learning the ropes with wordpress.com and wanting to expand to wordpress.org this seems very unfair, although I do appreciate the service wordpress provide i feel $75 is a lot of money if the theme becomes void when you want to expand your use of wordpress.

I understand the confusion. However, while WordPress.com and self-hosted WordPress sites are similar in many ways, they are quite different in many ways as well and upgrades are a good example of that (including Premium Themes).
Premium Themes that are licensed for WordPress.com use only cannot be transferred to self-hosted WordPress.org sites.
However, our goal is not to cause confusion or frustration for users. So I will bring this up with the team and see if we cannot come up with a better way to make it clear that themes are not transferable.
