Premium theme use?

    Can I purchase and use a premium theme on the free plan? If so, will I have enough functionality to use it as it’s designed?

    The short answer is yes.

    WordPress.com offers over 80 Premium themes for purchase that can be purchased for use with a “free” WordPress.com site.

    However, if you wish to use a WordPress theme purchased elsewhere (themeforest.net for example), you would need to step up to the Business or eCommerce plan:

    One thing that might be worth mentioning is that sites with a WordPress.com Premium plan get free access to all of our Premium themes. Now, the Premium plan is a yearly cost rather than the one time cost of purchasing a Premium theme, so that has to be considered. But if the Premium plan had other features that you were interested in, it might be worth looking into.
