Premium themes, especially Watson theme
-
I’m currently using a free theme on a free account. Is the price stated for a premium theme a one-off charge, or each year?
And perhaps someone could help me with a few questions about the great-looking Watson theme, which I’m thinking of buying:
– Is it possible to have each blog post with a wider column of text, and can the text be justified?
– Is there a simple text widget that can be used in the sidebar?
– Instead of the slider on the home page, can the large image be static?
– Can the featured thumbnails area on the homepage be given a title?Would appreciate any help.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you purchase the theme, it’s a one-off purchase, as you’re purchasing it for use on the specific site.

The text could made wider via custom CSS https://en.support.wordpress.com/custom-design/custom-css/ and the text alignment is set in the post editor: https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-editor/blocks/paragraph-block/#block-settings
Is there a simple text widget that can be used in the sidebar?
You can use any available widget in the sidebar, including the Text widget: https://en.support.wordpress.com/widgets/text-widget/
Instead of the slider on the home page, can the large image be static?
Not completely. You can choose to not have a Slider, but there’s no way to set a Header image. I suppose though, you could have the Slider and only put one item in it.
Can the featured thumbnails area on the homepage be given a title?
No, those are just as-is. It’s assumed the post’s title also reflects the featured image.

Thank you very much for your reply, macmanx. Really appreciated.
I think CSS (which I have some experience of using) is only available on a paid plan, which I don’t have, but will consider. If I choose the Personal plan, hopefully I can then edit CSS and make the page wider (although it’s pretty good by default).
About the slider, I’m assuming you mean that when the slider is set to off, then no image will show on the homepage for that blog post. But there is the workaround, as you suggest.
Regarding the title for the featured posts area on the homepage, I meant a title for the whole area, such as ‘Freatured posts’, rather than a title for individual posts.
(When I tried demo of Watson for my site it showed the blog name in a really nice font, in red. Hopefully that will how it is if or when I choose to buy the theme.)
I promise that’s all my questions. Your help has been indispensable.

To be able to add custom CSS you’ll want to upgrade to Premium, Personal will not give you this option. You can read more about our plans here:

You can choose not to display the slider with the featured image, for that you’ll not set a featured tag. If what you want is to have just one image, you may want to tag with featured just one post.

I’m afraid you won’t be able to add neither.

What you see is what you get :) When you use the option Try&Customize you see exactly what parts of the theme you can customize to your liking and how it will look like with your content.
I hope that helps :)
