Premium upgrade $99/year – but with a twist ?
-
If I were to purchase the premium upgrade ($99 per year) from the WordPress.com store, I know that I will enjoy a great value – – a custom domain, more space, advanced customization, no adds, etc. It sounds like a great deal.
So here’s my question. I also want to use a retired (non-premium) theme. Yes, that’s right. One of those poor old orphaned themes that while not “responsive” and lacking some of the latest and greatest WordPress features, nonetheless has an “old school” charm of its own.
So what do you say, Automattic ? However you have to do it – – presto change-o under the covers, set my blog create date back to 2010, etc., whatever works. You get $99/year, every year. I get Digg3 or Misty Look or iNove, and a banished but still loved theme gets to sing again.
Yes, no, maybe so ?

Themes are retired when they no longer support all WordPress.COM features. They remain available only on blogs that have used them previous but not on blogs registered after the date they were retired.
The premium upgrade includes a custom design upgrade that provides the ability to fiddle and tweak the appearance on any theme that’s available for use on the blog at > Dashboard > Appearance > Themes. The premium upgrade does not include any premium themes. They must be purchased separately.
See here for details on purchasing the annually renewable Premium bundle http://store.wordpress.com/plans/premium/ that contains a custom design upgrade required for CSS editing.

In other words nothing in terms of theme availability is any different than what it was here https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/inove-theme-1?replies=7#post-2153484 when you purchase a premium upgrade.

Thanks for the links to all the info I already read a long time ago. I absolutely know
You are a good member who is always immediate with responses, and always very thorough, complete, timely, and accurate.
Now, could I also get a “no” from actual staff ? Just to confirm that they are not interested in my $99 per year ? Or perhaps considering (or laughing at) such an outlandish request ?

Thanks timethief. I’ll give it a try. They probably need something to chuckle about over lunch tomorrow anyway.

Timethief, you are too good. You responded within 5 minutes of my original post.
I emailed to: help@wordpress.com, never received a reply in a week, but DID receive an automated “Rate your support experience” message, saying “Jerry recently helped you out with your support request” along with a pic of Jerry, and finishing with “your feedback helps us improve our support. “.
Well, Automattic, here’s my feedback (send in reply to the email as well). “Jerry” never replied, no one else did either, other than good old timethief here at the forum. As such, the rating would be “not ready for prime time”. Or some such. Hope that helps you “improve our support”. Maybe take some lessons from timethief ? At least her “no” to me was prompt !
