premium upgrade effects
-
Hey there
I’m happy with my Franklin them but am prepared to go Premium just to be ad free. If I upgrade:
1 can I keep Franklin and if so, do I get any more custom options to play with;
2 does my URL change or can I leave it as is for now?
3 if my URL changes, will my links be broken wherever I’ve left them on other blogs or Facebook
Thank you,
RichardThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi Richard! Let me answer all your questions:
1 can I keep Franklin and if so, do I get any more custom options to play with;
Of course you can keep Franklin!
You’ll have the option to choose from a bunch more custom colour palettes in addition to the three free palettes that already come with Franklin.
You’ll also be able to specify particular colours you’d like to use for headings, links, and the accent colour in Franklin.
You’ll also access a set of curated Typekit fonts, and be able to add custom CSS to make tweaks to the look and feel of other elements in the theme.
2 does my URL change or can I leave it as is for now?
You can leave the URL as you like, or add a custom domain at any point after you upgrade.
3 if my URL changes, will my links be broken wherever I’ve left them on other blogs or Facebook
No, they will still link to your site, no links will break.
Just let me know if you have any other questions!

Hi Kathrynwp
Wow; you are fast in replying…amazing support, thank you. A couple of follow ups to reduce my fear of clicking the upgrade button.
1 The closest theme to Franklin is Personal; I like clean open pages. As I’m a new blogger I dont want to change themes again just now (I started with Vintage Camera). But can I switch to Personal down the track within the Premium plan?
2 I dont understand the custom domain option. Can I change my existing richardalaba.wordpress.com to something without the wordpress.com?
3 If so, how would it look? could I have richardalabaCineMuse.com? If so, would all my existing links be automatically switched to the new URL
4 If in one or a few years time I’m over blogging but want to keep a legacy website as my digital footprint on earth (I’m an oldie), can I switch back to a free Franklin or similar with no disasterous effects on the page?
many thanks for you time

You can switch themes anytime, under free, Premium or Business plan. You are never tied to one theme!

Yes, that’s exactly what a custom domain is, a domain of your choosing without the wordpress.com part. :)

You would need to check if your desired domain is available at the time you decide to register it.
If so, would all my existing links be automatically switched to the new URL
Yes. As soon as you choose your new domain as your primary domain all links will be automatically switched.

If you decide to purchase Personal, it’s a one-time fee, and not related to the annual Premium plan in any way. Once it’s purchased, there’s no need to switch back to a free theme as it will remain on your site indefinitely.

Just to be totally clear, premium themes like Personal are purchased separately, and are a one-time fee for each theme you want to buy. They are not included in the Premium plan.
The only plan that includes unlimited premium themes is the Business plan.
You can see the differences between the two plans here:
