Premium upgrade, lost my domain mapping

  • Unknown's avatar

I upgraded to premium and my site was fine during the two week trial period, and now that I have paid for the premium I lost my domain mapping (which is supposed to be included with the premium membership) that I had already paid for. I have double-checked the mapping and reassigned the primary domain, and it still shows an error. None of the help pages help. Nobody who reads my blog gets to it through the WordPress site, and they all think I’ve gone AWOL.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sorry about this mix up. We are looking into getting these DNS records fixed up for you.

Any update? It’s still not fixed.

    Hi Claire,

It looks like your domain name is not actually registered with WordPress.com. It is registered with MelbourneIT and mapped to WordPress.

If you want to read more about mapping you can do so here:
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

MelbourneIT did a rejig of their whole system and moved sites on to new servers in January, and in my experience they did fine with the domain names that pointed to sites on their server, but they did not maintain all the DNS records of other domains registered with them.

I think you need to log in to Melbourne IT and change the name servers that your domain is using from there. The instructions for doing so are here:
    http://support.melbourneit.com.au/articles/help/Change-your-nameservers-redelegation/

The name servers you need to enter in to their settings are:
    NS1.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS2.WORDPRESS.COM
    NS3.WORDPRESS.COM

Thank you for checking into this. It is fixed now. I knew my domain wasn’t registered through WordPress, but it had been registered through another site for years (not Melbourne IT) and I had set it up to point at my blog. It was baffling that it stopped working right as I upgraded, and then to hear that it was registered through a site I’d never heard of was even weirder. It was a third-party partner, apparently. Maybe my next question will be how to transfer my existing domain to WordPress.

    Hi Claire!

That’s very nice of you to ask. :)

Sadly we’re not setup to accept domain transfers right now. But since you’ve owned the domain for more than 60 days, your registrar should let you transfer it to any other registrar you like (that can accept transfers, haha.)

If you ever do that, just double check afterwards that the name servers keep pointing to WordPress.com (like they are now) after the transfer. :)
