Press This Functionality
-
Has anyone found a way to restore the proper function Press This yet? My site is one in which I comment on news stories and I use the Press This bookmarklet several times a day. Pasting in a URL is silliness.
There was nothing harmful about the bookmarklet and everything useful, now it’s gone without a word. Since it is how I work I need a solution that either brings it back or does the exact same thing that it did.
Any suggestions to fix this mess?

Hi there,
It looks like the blog you need help with is a self-hosted WordPress.org site (hosted by GoDaddy). These forums are for sites hosted on WordPress.com.
For information on the differences between the two, please check this support page here:For WordPress.org support, you can visit:

You can find all the documentation for WordPress.org (lessons, troubleshooting, etc.) here:

Hope this helps!

Yes, it still does, but it looks like it has been retired instead from the core WordPress software (so for WordPress.org users), as this Staff member reply suggest:
Are you referring to the Press This bookmarklet? It has been retired from the Core WordPress software, so we have no direct control over this. You can see the Core ticket on this here:
https://core.trac.wordpress.org/ticket/41689
The Calypso version of the Press This bookmarklet can still be used as it runs on our Calypso codebase and not on the core software. I can’t guarantee that it won’t be retired at some point as well, though.

Thanks.
Based on the number of commplaints I’m reading on this subject I think their initial notion is a misjudgment. “Bookmarklets were popular seven – eight years ago, and now are considered mostly “old tech”.”
