Press This on Safari
-
I’m using a Mac with Safari and I can’t work out how to add the ‘Press This’ App. Dragging it doesn’t work, right clicking (i.e. the Mac equivalent) does not give me any option to install it. I am at a loss!
Please help or I will go insane haha

I’m on Safari Version 10.0.1 and I’ve put that tag on! I’m already subscribed. Surely someone else has a Mac on here?

Maybe but the bottom line is that Staff will respond as soon as they can. Please be patient while waiting.

Hi there,
I can add the Press This bookmarklet without any problems in Safari (10.0.3). You’re speaking of the button that appears at Settings ->Writing, correct?

Hi kokkieh, that’s the one I’m talking about. I don’t have that bar of ‘favourites’/’bookmarks’ whatever you call them along the top above my tabs! And I cannot work out how to turn it on…

That’s a Safari setting that has nothing to do with WordPress.com. Shift-Cmd-B should show that bar. You can also find the option in the View tab of the Safari menu.

Omg, thanks! I can add it now. It’s a real shame that it wasn’t actually worded that way on any WordPress help pages. It would have saved everyone a lot of time.
Unfortunately it doesn’t seem to actually work for its intended use… All it does when I reblog something is say ‘via NAME OF OTHER BLOG POST’ but doesn’t actually put the blog post on my blog… It doesn’t exactly work like it does like when I reblog things from WordPress hosted pages (even though one of these IS a wordpress blog, just one hosted by their own server!)

The Press This button doesn’t work the same as the Reblog button, no. For Press This, you need to highlight the piece of the website that you want to quote, and then press the button. It will then create a new post containing the quoted text, and a link back to the source. It can be used to create a post using content from ANY website.
Reblogs create a new post with an automatic excerpt which you cannot change, and a comment you can add, and links back to the original. Reblogs can ONLY be used on WordPress.com site, and only WordPress.com that have that feature enabled.
