Are you sure the post or page you were creating is not in either your draft post or draft pages? The reason I am asking is because wordpress.com has a built in autosave and it saves every 2 minutes. It may be possible to locate the entry and restore it. http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/03/21/wordpress-recovering-a-lost-blog-post-or-page/

Go to the post listing in your dashboard (posts > posts) and check and see it the post is listed there. If it is, open it and recover your last “revision.”

One thing to always keep in mind is that anytime you are working over the internet, there can always be issues saving things. There are literally hundreds of things that can go wrong, and it is not always the fault of wordpress.
To be the most safe, get yourself a blog client program such as Windows Live Writer or BlogDesk if you are on Windows, or Ecto if you are on Mac. These save directly to your hard drive and you can actually post directly to your blog from them and bypass the wordpress editor entirely. WLW and BlogDesk are free. Ecto is not, but at around $20, it doesn’t break the bank either.

Just about ready to find another site to blog in. Although this is my first time blogging it should be this difficult.

I can recommend a comprehensive tutorial. The Learn WordPress.com tutorial is divided into progressive levels and presented as a series: http://learn.wordpress.com/The support documentation is here > http://en.support.wordpress.com and that searchbox provides results from forum threads as well as from the documentation.
