Prevent new post announcement?
-
Is there a way to prevent the announcement of a new post (eg, by the eMail that goes to followers … and any other way that such announcement is made)? What concerns me is that these announcements include a link to the new post. But, I want the viewer to be able to navigate only through the pages that I provide for that purpose, not through an announcement link.
Example: proustmatters>menu>photo stories. What you see is just a page of links (like a table of contents). It is through this page (and this page only) that I would give access. Eventually I want to create a page and mark it “Password-Only”. If the announcement of a new post gives teh direct link, that would defeat the whole purpose. (I ‘m trying to password-protect a whole group, rather than do it individually.
Do you see what I’m struggling to ask?
My theme is Twenty Twelve with CSS.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

There is no way to permanently stop sending post announcements to the people that have followed your site. You can temporarily pause announcements by making your site private, publishing a post, then making your site public again.

Thank you so much rootjosh for your prompt reply. So helpful. I can now move forward with planning. It means that for those articles (a small subset) that I want to pass-word protect through this method, I should write them Pages rather than Posts. A new page will not raise an announcement. Then I’ll just have to password-protect the “Table-of-Contents” page.
Is this correct?

I’m not sure what you mean by “correct.” Anything you create as a static page will not send out a new post notification.

By “correct” I simply meant something like … “will this strategy work?” Never mind! You answered my question perfectly and I’m happily able to move on. Thanks.

@proustmatters-
Yes you are correct that pages will not send out published notifications.
Cheers!
