Prevent single-image post from enlarging (Scrawl theme)
-
I’m using the Scrawl theme for a private blog. When I make a post with a single image – whether I embed it in the post simply as an image, or as a single image in a gallery – the image automatically enlarges to the Featured Image size when the post loads. I’ve tried reducing the uploaded image dimensions to 700px (which is the full column width in this theme, afaik), but it still auto-enlarges. I’ve also tried specifying the image dimensions when making the post. I post a mixture of single images & of tiled galleries (which are 700px wide) & I’d prefer all posts to be the same width.
I can’t use custom CSS as I’m on the free plan. Is there some way I can prevent an image from being enlarged when displayed in a single image post? Unsure if this is a theme issue or a WordPress issue.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi @chantagaro, sorry about that. Scrawl is actually designed to pick up the first image and use it as featured if you don’t have something else specified.
There are a handful of themes that let you turn off featured images on single posts — are you pretty committed to Scrawl or would you like to check out some of the newer offerings? You can use the “Try and Customize” option to try themes on. They won’t change your live site until you click Publish.

Ah ok, I thought that might be the case. Thanks for taking the time to respond!
I found a workaround actually: I changed the image block to a tiled columns gallery, & added a 700×2 px transparent .png image as a 2nd image. Once you set the ‘Columns’ slider to 1, the image you want to show is constrained to the column width of 700px, & now that it’s a pair of images in a gallery, it doesn’t do the ‘Featured Image’ thing. (It does add a little extra padding to the bottom of the post but I can live with that.)
Hopefully this will be helpful to someone!
