Preventing photos from gettin copied

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,

I put up photographs on my blog in some of my posts. Is there any way by which I can prevent others from copying my images as some may be personal.
Also, how do I put that watermark of my blog URL across the pictures?

    Please advise.
    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

If you do a forum search, you’ll find that there is no way to post something on the internet and ensure other people can’t copy it. As for watermarking, you’d have to use a graphics program of some kind; anything from Paint to Photoshop. Instructions for those programs can be found elsewhere on the web.

I thought sites like flickr, orkut do not allow to copy images. WP has anything like that?

WP.com is not an image sharing site. I know several people whose pictures were stolen and posted on Orkut. And I’m no hacker, but even I can get around Flickr’s copy protection in less than a minute.

Do not use the world’s most powerful communication tool to try to keep something a secret. If your blog is private, or the post is password-protected, you have a measure of protection, but nothing is perfect.

  • Actually Flickr makes it very easy to download images.

Raincoaster is right, there’s no effective way to prevent something from being copied.

Your best bet with images is to resize your photos to a relatively low resolution before uploading. Worst case, people can copy that but won’t have the original. Use a watermark if that’s not sufficient.
