Preventing spam comments on images?
-
I get a lot of spam comments on images in my posts. These show up in my spam queue, so I’m able to delete them before they are attached to the images. Is there a way to prevent spam comments altogether, so that I don’t have to manually delete them from the spam queue?

Thanks for the links. My interpretation is that I should select “none” or “media file” from the “link to” pull-down menu when I’m inserting an image in a post. I will select “media file” from now on, so that readers can view a larger image. And I will work my way through old posts and edit images so that they point to “media file” instead of “attachment page.”

In the process of cleaning up my posts, I discovered that a lot of comments labeled (by WordPress) as spam are trackback links. Spammers and generators of malware have been attempting to leave trackback URLs on posts that allow trackbacks. So I’m going through all of those posts and eliminating the option of leaving a trackback URL. Also, I’ve prevented trackbacks and pingbacks on new posts by unchecking the box in discussion settings that allows them. I can find out who’s linking to my posts (legitimately) through Google alerts.

I’m still getting spam comments on certain images (about a dozen of them), despite all of the precautions I’ve taken. I wonder if those images were somehow compromised when they were posted as attachment pages and/or when the posts to which they are attached allowed trackbacks. If that’s the case, is there any way of eliminating spam comments/trackbacks short of deleting the posts that are attracting spam?
